Trowski,
Obviously you are so full of yourself you don't pay attention. I had
Vonage
service long before the PAP2 became available. My first device was an ATA 186.
OK; I will spell this out for you: The PAP2 offers far more functionality than what
Vonage
allows its customers to access. Until recently, the availability of consumer devices capable of giving priority to voice communications has been lousy. Vonage's policy of restricting access to the full functionality of the devices provided to customers limits the functionality of those devices. If
Vonage
would allow customers to access the user interface of a device such as the PAP2, many complaints about call quality would disappear.

Are you suggesting that the PAP2 actually has the ability to do QoS management, but it's being hidden by
Vonage
?

PeteR,
I am sorry you feel the way that you do. I never claimed to be all knowing etc when it comes to Vonage/Voip/Linksys. But we can agree to disagree.
Also, if you would like to get a device that has QOS then your argument is moot, as it is my understanding, and correct me if I am wrong, that the PAP2 doesn't support QOS features and it is your router that would handle it....
But, my main arguement, as you well know, is that you know going into the purchase of the PAP2 that it is locked, and you will only have limited access to it. That's all...
I can understand how it would be frustrating, but it is what it is. And some other members suggestions on ways to get it unlocked are unrealistic/borderline lunacy.
As for me, I have a simple setup here so the RT31P2 works just fine for me. I have friends that have the PAP2, and would like to have the added functionality, but understand at this time they can't.
Again, I am not full of myself. I am just presenting a valid rebuttal to the argument.
Vonage
is one of many, many options for
Voip
, and there are many others that allow you to have the added functionality/access you desire. At what point did it become Vonage's fault as opposed to yours for continuing your service and not allowing access to these devices? Freedom is choice, excercise yours and go to another provider that gives you that freedom you desire/need.

PeteR,
Ask any ISP about the support costs of "knowledgable" consumers/clients who seem to know better the best settings for their networking equipment. The PAP2 is an appliance - it is what it is. Preventing end-users from borking up the device is not limiting its' functionaility. It is limiting who has the ability to (mis)manage that functionality. Protecting the ill/mis-informed is not always a bad thing...

Another good point..Can you picture the call?
CS-What can I do for you?
Caller-I was messing around in the router/adapter/whatever, changed some things in there to see what it does, and now my
Voip
line doesn't work...you guys are horrible and I am reporting you to the FCC, FAA, BBB, and ABC!
CS-Sir/Maam, what settings did you change?
Caller-I don't remember, but it used to work, and doesn't now! You have deceptive practices for NOT locking me out so I could mess around with things I have no idea what they are! I want credit added to my account, credit me now!
CS-Do you have ANY idea what values/settings/ you tinkered with at all?
Caller-No, I am cancelling my account and getting a laywer to sue you for giving me enough access to be dangerous to my settings!
CS-(sigh)
