I have seen many other posts about this, but none seemed to stay on topic or offer concrete solutions.
I have a Linksys WRT54GP2 that constantly loses its connection. When I first bought it, I had a rock-solid wired connection but I noticed that the wireless connection couldn't stay connected for more than 10 minutes or so. Within the past week, my wired connection is now dropping out all together, too, and it's happening to both computers on my home network.
Firmware version: 1.28.00 Voice Version: 3.1.3(LI)
No heat issues here. Router is all by itself, 3 feet above and to the left of the cable modem, and 5-6 feet away from the computer. I use a 5.6GHz phone, and hardly ever use the microwave or any other device I know of that causes interference.
Does anyone else think this router is a piece of garbage? I want to call Linksys or Vonage, but based on what I've read here, that's probably not the highest and best use of my time.
So....
1.) Please respond to this thread's poll question; it would be interesting to gauge if this is an isolated incident or if it's more widespread. 2.) If anyone has a workaround or knows why this is happening, please help us out by posting what has worked for you to resolve the issue.
This is frustrating for all of us, and I know I'm not alone.
(As a side note, I also have the problem of not being able to disable the SSID Broadcast. I am beginning to think that this router is just bad in general. I love Linksys, but this product is not living up to expectations.) |

UPDATE: Called Linksys, who said that Vonage supplies the firmware, and it was their problem. Called Vonage, and rep said he had never heard of this problem before. He walked me through the process of "downgrading the firmware" to something prior to 1.28.00, but as of today (3 days later) I'm still showing the same exact firmware for the router, and still experiencing random reboots.
This is madness. |

Same firmware and Voice version as you. I think the voice version changed about a month ago or so. It's not as bad as when I first got it back in March, I was loosing wireless connection and dial tone. Then it was rebooting about every 30 minutes, seems like that stopped happening. Now it just kind of hangs or locks up. I have to reboot it and then it works good again. When it hangs I loose all internet and the green phone light on the router turns off, but I still get dial tone. It happened while I was on the phone two days ago and I heard the other person talking, but they could not hear me. |
