Setup Internet <-> Motorola SB5100 <-> Linksys RT31P2 (with corded phone) <-> Linksys WRT54G <-> Linksys WET54G <-> D-Link DI-604 Router <-> Computer
My ISP is Comcast
Situation 1. Phone1 line is green solid 2. Pick up corded phone and get a dialtone 3. Dial a number and get a ring tone as the call rings through 4. When the call connects, just the wonderful sound of silence. The call is connecting just no audio (can't hear things either way)
I have tried both inbound and outbound calls and it does not appear to matter. Note: When I first setup my RT31P2 I was able to successfully make 1 phone call (it was crystal clear in a good way). That was Saturday 7/16. Ever since then I just get silence.

muleboy9t9,
you said that your setup is as follows:
| Quote: | Setup Internet <-> Motorola SB5100 <-> Linksys RT31P2 (with corded phone) <-> Linksys WRT54G <-> Linksys WET54G <-> D-Link DI-604 Router <-> Computer |
Just for debugging purposes, would it be possible to just connect this way:
internet -> SB5100 -> RT31P2 -> corded phone
and see if it is working well. Also, did you clone the mac address on the rt31p2. My experience with comcast requires a cloning of the mac address.

Thanks for the quick response mundy5
I did try to remove all devices from the chain as a troubleshooting action but it didn't have any impact.
What MAC Address should I be cloning at the RT31P2? The cable modem itself.
Its just a weird problem because I have audio up to the point when the connection between caller and callee is established (just goes silent on both ends). Not static just quiet
Thanks for the input and troubleshooting tips. |

This page should bring up the signal data for your SB5100: http://192.168.100.1/signal.html
It would be helpful if you posted that info here.
And don't worry about the MAC cloning. Comcast doesn't need it, in my experience. |

Status MAC Cloning made no difference. At least my problem is consistent. * Dialtone OK, Ringtone OK, When call connects no audio. At least it is consistent.

Your downstream signal is a little on the low side, but not enough to cause any problems.
Call Vonage and have them switch your phone over to Port 2. My best guess is that there might be something wrong with the audio interface, and it could be affecting just Port 1.
Actually, before you even call Vonage, connect a phone to Port 2 and see if you can hear the recorded message saying to use the other port. That would at least tell you that the box is able to output audio. |

Thanks Paul248
Plugged corded phone into Phone2 jack and get silence, eventually it does go to a busy signal if I leave the phone off the hook while connected to Phone2 jack.
Any thoughts on the impact of doing a reset on the RT31P2? (By that I mean holding down the reset button on the back of the RT31P2 on the back of the unit). Would that return the RT31P2 to the default configuration as sent out by Vonage, or would it wipe it to the point where I would require divine assistance from Vonage
I don't know if I mentioned in a previous message but when I first set the RT31P2 on my network, I was able to place 1 successful (and crystal clear) phone call to my family. This is a real head scratcher unless like you said...the audio interface has failed on this unit. |

The reset button doesn't do any irreversable damage. It just erases your custom settings, and it also seems to pull down the latest firmware version from Vonage.
Speaking of which, what is your RT31P2's firmware version right now? |
