I've had Vonage for a while using a Motorola VT1005. I was having problems with my Vonage service, so I purchased a Linksys PAP2 about 45 days ago.
That didn't seem to fix it.. The problem ended up being something with my Cable ISP.
Anyway.. Now that I got my ISP working the way it should be, I'm using the Motorola again, because it was the last thing that I had on my network.
The question is... Since I have both devices.. Should I be using the PAP2, since it is newer? or the Motorola since it has been around for a while?
Right now.. The Motorola seems to be working ok.. My Tivo will even work with it... It does seem to sync up a little slower then the PAP2.
Just wondering if I should switch back to the PAP2 since it is newer/smaller.. or is the Motorola more reliable??
When you call up Vonage, some reps say they like the Motorola because its been around. Some say the PAP2 is better because it is newer... Any opinions? |

do you want to know what you should have for lunch also? in other words, it's really just a personal choice. if it works, it works. if you are that indecisive, then try them both for a bit and decide then. |

Hmm...yeah.. Burrito or Burger...hmm.. Good question..
I don't know a lot about the PAP2. I was just wondering if there is something, technically, that would make the PAP2 better.. Yes.. I couldn't really tell anything different between the two.. except the PAP2 has some cool looking blue lights and is a little smaller. I run both behind a WRT54G router, so routing functions on the Motorola are irrelevent. |

the pap2 is just an adapter, but with the wrt54g I would use the QOS on the WRT and use the Pap2. That seems to be a winning combo. |

Hmmm.. I just plugged in the PAP2 again. It still seems to work. Is it normal for both devices to work without calling Vonage? |

Yeah, but it has my phone numbers attached to it still....
I wonder what would happen if I plugged both in at the same time... |

"The encounter can create a time paradox, the result of which could cause a chain reaction, that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum and destroy the entire universe. Granted that's a worst case scenario, the destruction might in fact be localized, limited to our own galaxy." |

Yeah... Almost...
Surprise..it didn't work with them both plugged in. For a few seconds I was able to place a call with the 2nd unit.. Then I got fast busy on both lines when plugged in.
It ends up that the PAP2 doesn't work so well with Vonage. Motorola wins because of this. |
