Got my congratulations letter saying my transfer request is now complete. Checked my land based phones and all had dialtone still. Read here in the forums that probably at midnight the switch would happen. I could dial out on land based phone and Vonage line but not receive calls on either. Well I could dial my virtual number and my Vonage line would ring but when dialing my transfered number it would no phones rang.
Woke up this morning and see that the transfer of my land based line has occured. All phones in my house are without dialtone. Tried calling my transfered number and just rings but actual phone plugged into motorola VT1005 doesn't ring.
After work disconnected my wiring at my demarcation point. Now all phones in house are on Vonage. Called tech service to see whats wrong and said that even thou my status says this:
Updated Date: Number Transfer Progress History: December 28, 2003 Awaiting Letter of Authorization December 29, 2003 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received December 30, 2003 Transfer Sent to Carrier January 19, 2004 Carrier Approved Transfer January 20, 2004 Completed LNP Transfer
he said it normally takes 24-48 hours for LNP transfer. By tomorrow afternoon I should be ok. Anyone have this experience? Is this normal? I've searched but didn't find anything like this. Thanks

Update: Called this morning to find why there has been no change in my problem. It finally has elevated to a "ticket". I should be getting an email sometime today with the answer. Technician thinks its a routing table problem.... |

The phone rings, pick it up and you hear nothing. A few seconds go by and I get a busy tone. Seems to happen to 60% of my incoming calls. Outgoing no problem. Internet firewall protection not enabled. Bandwith saver at 90K. What might be my problem? |

Well no email last night or this morning so far! No change in problem either. Called at 10:15am and they are so back logged they tell you to call back later...
I can see now why people are annoyed with the technical service Vonage has.
I understand the Voip concept and the pain it must be causing them when you throw in routers, switches, hubs and the customer.
I bought the service because its NEW and its a cost savings for me. We have a total of 4 incoming numbers for my household. 3 cell and Vonage. My biggest problem is having to answer to my WIFE! The quietness of the house is DEAFENING if you know what I mean! I love the fact that the phone doesn't ring. The land line phone is like the holy grail to my wife. I'm sorry for rambling but I'm writing this while on hold to talk to a Vonage tech. Will let you know what if anything happens when I get through..... |

that's not the way mine went. I got the "congrats" email and within an hour or less, I'd say, our regular phone lines lost dial tone. My virtual number did "cease to exist," basically and if you dialed it, it went nowhere. BUT from the time they said my transfer was complete, my ATA rang with our regular, permanent phone number.
Called my husband at work, told him to bring a bottle of wine and some wire cutters. He came home, we cut the cord, literally with Bell, and took over the house wiring. We've been running fine ever since (October '03.) We did get another bill from Bell, though -- and it was really hard explaining to them they didn't have my phone anymore. One person swore it was still active -- but we finally got it ironed out.
Hopefully they'll get yours straightened out. Taking over the house wiring is sweet. Good luck,

Laureltn,
Thats how it was for someone else I know.
My house is switched over to Vonage now, the only incoming call I get now is from the few people we have given our virtual number.
Update to my problem: Got a hold of a level 3 tech this afternoon he said he was pretty sure of the problem. My transfered number was not assigned in their gateway. He sent a request to the dept that handles this while I was talking to him. Said it was an easy fix and they usually have it fixed in an hour to hour and a half. That was 5 hours ago..... |

yuppers, this stuff always has to happen on the weekends, no? Good luck. My experience with all the Vonage techs, especially my buddies Mike and Troy, are wonderful. They are really caring will see it through. Sometimes it just takes a while. You could, I suppose, forward your number to your cell for now. would it ring through to it while they fix it?
good luck!

Good News! At 8:53pm we got a call from Scott a tech from Vonage. It rang in on our transfered line! He said the number never got ported. They did it and it worked right away. Finally all is well. Have to say if you get to a level 3 guy you will get some action.

awesome news. I don't know what level my guys are -- they just all really try hard. Only Level 3 I know for sure was on the beeping. (And we still don't have that 100% resolved, but they'll get there.)
Happy dialing. Go crazy, dude. Especially if you have unlimited. I keep wishing I knew people in Canada to call for free.
