I'm having trouble figuring out an adaptation of Vonnage installation with my (new) setup. All should know that I come to Vonage and DSL out of Verizon frustation following a move: both my landline service and dsl service have not been working for 6 weeks & finally I had enough and plunked down my month's disposable income for a router, two adapters and a PAP2 device w/out doing my homework.

I am on the 3rd floor, with a seperate (and currently working) landline but shared dsl. I successfully installed a router on the 2nd floor, piggybacked (?) to the primary dsl (comcast) box (router?) is located. Adapters are on the 2nd floor machine and the 3rd floor machine. DSL works wonderfully, no connection problems.

I installed the phone adapter to use on and with the Floor 3 equipment. The power light is on (yeah!), as is the ethernet light. The latter only happened when I ran the cable through a westell router that I happened to have. No phone line, no matter where I plug the set into: computer or router.

Any suggestions what setup I might try so that I get phone service again? It's been a long 6 weeks!

I'd like to help...but am totally confused as to what you've got going on there... sounds like a lot of equipment. Could you post the following:

ISP?
Equipment: make & model #?

I just want to make sure that we're both talking about apples & apples rather than oranges.

I'm sorry to hear that you have yet to get your Vonage to work properly. However, as VonageTPA has mentioned in response, we are a bit short on specific information that might help people here get some answers for you.

I'm a bit confused as to what you mean by two adapters? Are these the rt31p2 from Vonage or Vonage adapters purchased at a retail store and if so, why did you get two of them? Also if you have two rt31p2s why did you get a PAP2 device? Are you trying to use all three of these phone adapters to use in different locations? I am assuming and correct me if I am wrong but you purchased these three adapters probably in succession as you ran into difficulty with the first router, etc. Is that correct?

If you purchased them from a retail store, you will need to activate the adapter with Vonage either online or via their customer service line before the adapter can get a dial tone etc.

Also what kind of router did you get? Is this just a standard router?

I noticed that you said your DSL connection is on the 2nd floor but you are trying to use the adapter on the 3rd floor.

I am assuming that you are connecting from floor 3 to floor 2 wirelessly. If so, then you rt31p2 will not work from the 3rd floor since it requires a direct wired connection to a cable/dsl modem unless you take steps to bridge it to the wireless router.

The preferred solution is to connect the rt31p2 adapter from Vonage to the DSL modem on the second floor and connect the Vonage either to a cordless phone system and obtain an extension phone in your 3rd floor room or connect it directly to the inside wiring of the home and use the phone that is already in your 3rd floor room. If you choose to use your inside wiring, you will need to be careful because you are already using DSL. You should plan it carefully so that you do not blow out your router.

There are many experts on the forum who would be glad to assist if given more information. that's the best I can do for now given the current information.
