Hi,
I searched this forum, but seem to have a unique problem.
I have ordered Vonage service (no device delivered yet, but that is expected with only 3 days of service)
Seems that my local cellular service insists that my Vonage number is not local and must charge LD fees. Every phone in town I have tried public resturants, pay phones, office phones, friends, etc all connect without LD dialing.
I am at a loss where to go from here. I really do not want to have to change to a long distance cellular plan just so that my wife can call home from down the block.

You need to contact your cell phone provider and have them explain it. The problem may be the prefix not being programmed in, but it is possible that your cell phone provider is truly long distance to your new Vonage number.
Phone prefixes are associated with a specific location (switch I think they call it) and long distance is defined as calls to any switch that is more than 12 miles away. If it is truly a long distance call, then it is probably because the Vonage number is associated to one switch, the cell phone is associated with another and the landlines you try are in a third. The Cell Phone switch may be less than 12 miles from the land lines but over 12 miles to the Vonage switch. (I had a choice of switches when I signed up for Vonage, I picked the same switch my current number was in so I didn't run into this). |
