Bellsouth I could handle. But if SBC buys Vonage, I might bail. |

Report: Vonage in talks to sell to BellSouth
-Posted by Russell Shaw @ 7:25 pm
Late this afternoon, Rich Tehrani, publisher of technology news site TMCnet, reported on his blog that:
"Rumor has it that Vonage is in talks with BellSouth to sell their Voip service company for about 3.5 billion dollars."
Tehrani added that when Vonage's 800,000 or so subscribers are factored in to the rumored price, "that values each Vonage subscriber at $4,375!"
At the dinner hour, TMCnet's Web editorial director Al Bredenburg then posted that "an inquiry sent from TMCnet to BellSouth generated a quick but definite refusal to comment on the question."
Hmm, give me the evening and early morning to think about what this might mean. Back atcha in the a.m. http://blogs.zdnet.com/ip-telephony/?p=536 |

The more I think of it, this might be one of those things where the Big Four feel like they each need a Voip provider in their company.
With their purchase of AT&T, SBC has CallVantage. Bellsouth may want in. Qwest and Verizon wouldn't be far behind.
The only thing that suckss is I could easily see prices going up if Bellsouth pays a lot for it. The cable companies are at $40 for their Voip, Callvantage is $30. |

I think Rich Tehrani, president of TMC creditability is in the toilet. His blog post is pure sensationalism. I believe what Dan says in todays Vonage VoIP Forum Digest |

If any of the former bells buys out Vonage, I'm out. I should have waited a couple of months b4 switching to Vonage beacuse my former POT now has Voip with all the same features and price as Vonage. damn! btw the services has been great! |

If BS buys Vonage, I'll ride the wave and see what happens. |

Why would you instantly dump Vonage if one of the Bell's buys them? If they didn't increase rates, imporved customer service, and basically left everything in tact, I don't see why jumping ship without any basis makes any sense... |

Do you remember why you switched to Vonage? If the rumors are true then there will be price increases to recoup the 3.5 billion they spent to buy Vonage because they would have no choice. Letting the rates stay low it would take probably more than 10 yrs to just break even. The rest of the bell services..well..you can't teach an old dog new tricks. |

The beauty of Voip is there will always be multiple players. Fret not. If Vonage were swallowed by the Great Satan, there'd be somebody there to pick up the slack. |
