I live in Northern Nevada and the 775 area code is the only local area code we have. Has anyone heard when vonage will be adding 775? Is there a way to get local incomming calls besides adding an 800 number?
Thanks! |

I would like to know the answer to this also. Ive been waiting for over a year for Vonage service to come to Northern Nevada. Funny thing is I have a 530 number with Vonage which is Lake Tahoe, a much smaller population then Reno. My Family is tired of calling me long distance. |

I've been waiting on them to support 775 for almost 3 years now. It's not like it's impossible for them to be here either. A buddy of mine has SunRocket and he has a 775 number. Unfortunately the service is not all that great, so I'm still waiting on Vonage. All the while I'm paying SBC $35 a month for a phone I hardly ever use.

Something specific happening on August 12th? Or is this just a wild guess?

FYI and if it matters -
Sipphone.com does offer 775 number for their subscribers. Seems they have also posted some not so good posts about Vonage on their site. Not sure if this indicates that Vonage will not offer 775 or if they will be offering soon? Might be worth going to sippone.com and reading the details yourself.
Personally I hope that Vonage will continue to support open system sip technology and allow porting between services so that we can all benefit.

Get yourselves an 800 number. It costs just under 5 bucks and your families won't get soaked anymore. Here's how it works. Get the number...You'll get 100 free incoming minutes a month I believe. Have your family members call the 800 number and say that they would like to talk to you, quickly hang up, and call them. You of course can do this with all of your friends as well. If you do go over the 100 minutes i think that you pay for the call. The benefits are of course you can talk to your family, they won't get screwed and it only costs you an additional 5 bucks a month. You could even use the caller ID feature and not even answer the phone...thereby insuring that you won't go over the 100 minutes.
Ive had to do this myself as South Dakota has NO number portability with the exception of Sioux Falls...Surprise..Surprise...you know what I mean...I realize this approach is kind of a pain in the ass but it saves me a 60 dollar a month phone bill.
Good Luck

I noticed that Best Buy has vonage service for sale in their Reno store, but nowhere is there a warning that there are no 775 numbers available. Sunrocket has reno numbers, and Charter is going to offer phone service very soon, but I think Charter is too expensive to be a viable competitor to other VOIP providers. |

Yeah I've seen the Vonage stuff at the Best Buy down here in Carson for almost a year now, and they still don't offer local numbers. A buddy of mine got Sun Rocket and his quality is horrible. He's even tried making it so the phone was the only thing connected to his Cable modem and he still sounds like he's talking on a bad cell phone and gets his call dropped every few minutes.
I'm hoping that August 12th date posted above pans out and I can get Vonage in a couple of weeks.

I am in Reno tried Sunrocket for about 3 months never could get consistent quality, it ranged from bad to awful. Charter is going to offer voip in Reno but IMO they are way overpriced. Clearwire apparently offers it too, but I'm on a year contract with SBC DSL so sort of stuck for now I guess |
