Does Vonage Block faxing if you have not paid for the extra fax line? I really do not want to pay $10 to fax things, If I wanted to do that I could have stuck with verizons package. |

No, you can fax from your primary/only Vonage line. They will even help you get it set up and working right. |

Then what is the purpose of the dedicated fax line? |

For outgoing faxes using *99 changes the CODEC to one more suitable for faxing. I imagine that the FAX lines are set up to handle faxes, especially incoming faxes much more reliably.
That being said, I haven't had any difficulty. |

So it does work on the regular line but its not as reliable? How about incoming faxes - do those work good? |

Actually, according to the Vonage Help pages, *99 simply changes your line to high Bandwidth for the duration of the call. So the *99 will only help faxes if you are using the Bandwidth Saver feature.
Having said that, I can't claim to be an expert since I'm still waiting for my !@#$% number to be ported before I wire my house for Vonage. |

For exactly the same reason that some people buy a separate phone line for their fax from the telcos. Some people do a lot of faxing, such as a part time business run out of their house, and don't want to tie up their voice line. |
