I have a 3060 series Replay TV which has worked great for 3 years. It does NOT have a broadband connection and I have used dial-up to connect to Replay TV service every night.
I just switched to Vonage for my phone service, so I cancelled my phone service with my local carrier. (I now use the Panasonic expandable phone system with up to 8 phones and do NOT use the wall jacks for ANY phones.) Since the phone jacks are dead, my Replay TV service is also dead.
Instead of running a phone line from the Vonage adapter, via a phone line splitter, I was considering one of those RCA or GE boxes for about $80, which uses house AC wiring to transmit phone line service wirelessley to a room without a phone jack. So I am considering putting a splitter on the Vonage adapter and using this box which can be purchased at CC or BB.
I hope this will work, but have great concerns that introducing AC current into the Vonage set up will blow out the box. The instructions specifically state to disconnect all lines coming into the house if one uses their existing phones lines in the home to connect other phones to the Vonage adapter.
Therefore, I'll have to either run long phone wires through walls, upgrade to a broadband type Replay TV....I have 2 of them, or use the RCA or GE phone AC wireless boxes and risk blowing out my Vonage service.
Any Comments or Suggestions are appreciated?? Phil |

As a supplement to the above post, I cannot get a hard wired phone to work correctly with the wall jack when using a splitter from the vonage adapter.
More specifically, I'm connecting one phone line to the Panasonic base unit, then the other to the wall jack, AFTER disconnecting the lines into the house on customer side of the box.
Here is what happens:
When I pick up the Panny phone, I get a dial tone which changes to a fast busy signal and cannot make an outgoing call. Why?
Replay TV must be experiencing the same thing as I do when I pick up the phone, since it cannot connect to the local server number, or any other number I changed it to to capture the 14 day TV menu.
When I disconnenct the phone line, connected from the Vonage box to the wall jack, the phone works perfect and a red light goes off on the phone. Then, as soon as I reconnect the phone line to the wall jack, the phone does not function.
1. I spoke with someone at Radio Shack, who said they have a tool which can check if the phone wires are correctly connected inside a wall jack. Could this be the problem, and if not why is this happening and what can I do to correct it and use Replay TV with a Vonage phone service?
2. While upgrading to a 5000 series sounds great, since I have the 3000 series, I pay no monthly fees, which probably saves us about $240/year.
3. Will the GE or RCA boxes using AC, which state they get phone service working in a room without a phone jack, be the way to go if I cannot get my house wiring to work with Vonage?
Thanks !! Phil |
