all that means is that you are not having any NAT issues when you plug directly into the modem, because the modem does not do NAT.

Oddly enough, websites not opening/im's not working, are all signs that your upload bandwidth is tapped out.

you are welcome to try another router, but again, just in my opinion, it'd be a waste of $$$ cause i dont think thats the problem. try buying one from some place that you can get a refund from, Circuit city or the like, that way, just in case i am right, you can get your money back.

This is what the log output looks like when the router maxes out the connection cache.

Code:

08-02-2005   01:33:56   Kernel.Warning   10.0.1.1   [001310A3A400] ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet.
08-02-2005   01:33:56   Kernel.Warning   10.0.1.1   [001310A3A400] NET: 1 messages suppressed.
08-02-2005   01:33:36   Kernel.Warning   10.0.1.1   [001310A3A400] ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet.
08-02-2005   01:33:36   Kernel.Warning   10.0.1.1   [001310A3A400] ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet.

Has anyone found a fix for this, would it be easy to make modifications and re-compile the firmware?

Can you make the modification through SSH?

Man, this hardware bums me out.

I have a WRTP54G with 1.00.37 and I don't experience this problem running BitTorrent or eMule (or both). The only problem I have is having to manually dial back their upload speed in order to be heard by the person on the other end of a phone call. I was apparently under the mistaken impression that the router's QoS might actually throttle the data traffic properly so that all of the voice traffic got through correctly. Instead it's completely useless for me.

What do you have your max connections set to? Do you watch the router logs to see if there's any of those ip_conntrack errors?

cnegron, have you tried manually downgrading to 1.00.29 firmware? I doubt it'll help any, but it's something to try.

Sorry to bump this, but does anyone know if the new 1.00.43 firmware fixed the issue (or provided a setting in the admin interface to control connection cache timers)?

bt13 - I just tested this and it still has the same problem. Anything above ~35 connections and I get ip_conntrack errors follwed by lack of connectivity.

I'm using kiwi syslog daemon and the router log set to debug.

kind of a bummer, happy about some of the other changes though.

Forgot to answer the other part, no trace of an admin function for the caches unfortunately.

cnegron, would you mind sharing your Kiwi configuration? I just installed it to see if I'm getting the same messages, but I'm not getting any output. On the WRTP54G I have Debug-level logging directed towards my desktop's static IP address, and on my desktop (Windows XP SP2) I have the firewall set to allow UDP port 152 traffic, I have Kiwi installed and started as a service, and under Kiwi's Setup->Inputs->SNMP I have it checked to listen for SNMP traps. Still, I get no messages... is there something I'm missing here?

Edit: Ahh, I got it working now. I also had to add "C:\Program Files\Syslogd\Syslogd_Service.exe" as a Program Exception to Windows Firewall. No interesting messages yet aside from failed SSH logins (my own attempts) and webcm output messages whenever I load an administration web page, but at least I can see that it's working.

My wrtp54g is also experiencing the ip_conntrack error. I am running 1.00.45 and forwarding the logs to another computer. The exact error message that shows up with I am experiencing my issues is:
Code:
ip_conntrack: table full, dropping packet.

In e-mail conversations, Vonage kept insisting that it is a bandwidth issue. I called tech support, but they were not aware of anyone else experiencing the issue and helped me reinstall the 1.00.45 firmware. It did not resolve the issue. I tried to explain that I believed it is a software issue, but they suggested I try to contact the store I bought it from and get a replacement wrtp54g.
A simple Google search turned up a few sites that explain how to resolve the issue, however I need SSH access in order to update the configuration file. An NMAP scan of the device confirmed that SSH is running on the router. Has anyone been able to gain access to the wrtp54g via SSH?

No. From what I've heard it's difficult to get Vonage to even acknowledge that SSH is running, and impossible to get a username and password. It sounded like some people were working on getting access, but I haven't heard of any luck cracking the machine. http://openwrt.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1643

And you are right, it's most definitely a software issue. They've set their NAT parameters to maintain dead connections for about 5 days or so. With lots of connections coming and going with filesharing and often not closing gracefully, it seems to take a computer typically about 12-24 hours to fill up the connection table, at which point it will have trouble establishing/maintaining valid connections.

Since they gave you a standard BS response about "not being aware of anyone else having the problem" I'll have some futile fun and report it myself too. I don't expect to get anywhere, but what the hell.
