PostPosted: Tue Jul 12, 2005 9:07 am    Post subject: Series 2 Tivo - RT31P2 Router - Line Is Busy or Cannot Conn Reply with quote Back to top

I have tried the various codes that I have read on the forums but I am still not having any luck .

I still have my old dial number in my tivo setup - area code 615 - I have changed the area code to 212 - but I don't see a place to replace my old dial in number (am I just BLIND?)

I do have 2 lines - does it matter which I use? I don't have a dsl filter in, but some of the threads said this wasn't necessary.

Should I just do a complete reset of my tivo box? Any help would be appreciated!!!!!!

The process for changing your local dial in number begins by selecting the area code. TiVo then dials a toll free number to download the current list of dial in numbers and lets you select the number from the list. It then allows you to choose the format 7, 10 or 11 digits for the number. If you can't make a call you can't use the normal procedures for switching the dial up numbers.

Steps to get you up and running:

First are you using the dial prefix ",#034" and the call waiting "*99"?

Second, you can't change your dial up number without making a successful call. However you can hardcode the dialup number in the dial prefix: ,#034,*99,12122773895,,. The TiVo will dial that number then continue by dialing your existing dialup number, but Vonage should ignore it.

I am not convinced that this will allow DirecTV calls, but it should work with TiVo calls. I am going to try it out and see what happens since my DirecTV calls seem to be failing again even though my TiVo calls work fine.

Don't forget to call Vonage and have them adjust your packet size to work with TiVo.

Troubleshooting:

Pick up an extension phone after the TiVo starts dialing. Does the number ring and negotiation start?

Check your Vonage dashboard to be sure the correct number is being dialed.

I am using the codes suggested - still no dial out - I did ask Vonage to make the changes suggested.

When it is trying to dial out - I can pick up my handset on a nother phone and dial out - so the TIVO box is not actually picking up the line at all. I have a splitter on the cord - for line one and two - I have it in line one - should I take it out completely and just plug into the wall?

I imagine you have turned dial tone detection and phone in use detection off?

I would certainly try it without the splitter, but I would turn dial tone detection on and see what TiVo has to say. I would also check out that phone line with a regular phone and make sure it has dial tone.

All the code stuff/dial in numbers in the world won't make a difference until you figure out why your TiVo isn't dialing.

If I were you I would set all of my dialing options back and get to a point where I know the TiVo is hearing a dial tone and dialing. Then, if negotiation is failing you can start adding codes and trying new dial in numbers.

The TIVO box IS NOT dialing out - I did hook up a telephone and was able to dial out. I also spoke with Vonage support the guy that I spoke with really tried to help - he did some things to my service - I rebooted the router - I even followed his advice - got a really long cable (my router is in one room - tivo box in another ) he thought the distance might be a problem - I took the router into the room with the TIVO box and hooked it up straight into the router - it looked like I was getting activity - but it still could not connect. When I look on my account it does not show a dial out - It did early this AM a few times - but on my line 2 not line 1 - which is odd because when I hook up a telephone to the line - line 2 does not work - only line 1....

I'm heading out of town - very frustrated - will try more things when my mind is clear - thanks for the suggestions...
