I just got my system setup and was unable to find this solution on this site or any other mac site.

My phone service is working fine, and when I hard tie the RJ-11 cable from either the modem directly, or the router, my internet works just fine. However, when I connect the router to my airport express for wireless, it does not work. The AirTunes part of Airport Express works fine. I have tried all of the following.

1. Turning everything off, and connecting step by step as instructed by the guide given by Vonage. Checked all cables. Reconfigured Airport via Admin Utility & Airport Setup Assistant. None of these things have worked. I have tried changing IP addresses as well. What is the problem? I'd appreciate any help on this matter.

I just got my Vonage box. The setup is as follows:

Cable Modem->Airport Extreme->Linksys RTP300 (LAN ethernet).

The problem is that when I turn on the phone (i.e. push talk) and get a dial tone, the wireless signal dissapears completely, and I am unable to connect any of my computers to the internet. As soon as I hang up the phone, the wireless signal comes back, and I can connect to the internet again.

Any thoughts?

I am a fellow Mac user in need of advice on how to setup my system in order to get a dial tone. I can see that you were successful in getting your system to work. I followed the router's instructions (I got a Linksys WRT54GP2) by connecting it to my modem (a Netgear DG834G) on one end and to my G5 on the other end, but I can't get it to work. It is obvious that I am not setting the devices properly, so if you can just describe for me how are the IPs and all other related addresses configured in your system so that I can try something similar, I would appreciate it very much.

Hello Appleman.

Well it seems like your problem is different from mine. I never had any such problem with a dialtone. It was weird (i still can't figure out how that works!), as soon as I plugged in the ethernet cable to the Linsky's modem, and then attached the phone line, it worked fine! Instant dial-tone.

My problems had to do with airport express being reconfigured for the linsky's router so that I could maintain a wireless network.


I think if you are having dialtone problems, you should make sure you are connected to the port 1 telephone jack. Also, make sure you activate the linskys's and the cable line before the phone jack (i guess).

For the internet, I'd turn everything off, for awhile, disconnect all cables...

Then plug in the cables... turn on the cable modem first, wait until its up and running, then the router (linsky's/vonage), then a wireless network.... that should work.

Folks, I hope you can help me. I am not great at mac terminology, or pc terminology in general. I have my Vonage working, finally, but I need to know what to do to make my airport express work again. I have Comcast as my ISP, and the Vonage guy told me to:

1. Connect cable to Wan (vonage device) port and other end to (Comcast cable modem) ethernet port.
2. Connect cable from PC port (vonage device) to LAN port (back of pc).
3. Conect phone line from back of phone to line 1 on Vonage device.

It works fine, but I also have an Airport Express and wireless internet to my mac iBook. What do I do with the Airport Express device? In what order?

Please help me, and thank you in advance.

Bonnie, it's hard for us to help you because you still haven't given us details about your equipment. For instance, what Vonage adapter do you have?

However, since you seem to be running with your phone and main computer, try this. If your Vonage adapter has an unused ethernet port (LAN, RJ45), run a cable from there to the the WAN port on your Airport router. Power up your cable modem first, wait one minute, then your adapter, wait one minute, then the Airport.

If your Vonage adapter does not have another ethernet port, then disconnect the cable that is going to your computer and plug it into the WAN port on the Airport instead. Then run another cable from an ethernet port on the Airport to the computer ethernet port. Power up as before and it will probably work.

Has anyone had luck not only getting Internet access but also AirTunes and iPhoto sharing (via iTunes and iPhoto) when using Airport Express and Vonage?

I am assuming (I am not a Vonage customer yet) that the hookup would go like this:

Cable modem => Vonage router => Airport Express

I have attempted to make this work with AT&Ts Voip system and it did not work. The wireless Internet connection via my Airport Express worked fine but I lost the ability to share music and photos with other machines in my house.

Please let me know if you have had luck using AE (Airport Express ... not Airport Extreme) and Vonage.

Hope someone has an idea about this.

Using an iBook with Airport card, and iMac G5 with Airport Extreme, Airport Express, Motorola cable modem and Linksys Vonage Router. Current setup has cable modem to Linksys router to Airport.

Whenever I receive a call, I lose all connectivity over the Airport (computer to computer, internet, shared music&photos, etc). When the call ends, the connectivity comes back. I'm using 2.4 GHZ phones, and I hope that's not the issue.

I've tried all the "textbook" solutions (i.e. pluggin and unpluggin in proper order, reset devices, etc).

If anyone has any ideas before I go buy another phone, I'd appreciate it!!
