Hi, i need some help with the VT1000 voice modem. I have it all setup on my computer and network. In the web based configuration, i need to open ports, but it limits me on the way i can open them. It wont let me open multiple ports, only a single port at a time. For example, i can open 2300 but what i need to open 2300-2400 and the web based configuration doesnt allow me to do this. IS there any way that i could manually open these ports? |

Are you talking about a router? If so what type? What order are your network devices in? |

The opening of ports seemed routerish, but I don't know a lot about the vt1000. |

the vt1000 is a router (more or less...mainly less) anyway with the subject saying "help with the vt1000" as well as his post, I think that's what he's talking about. at any rate, I'm not sure of any solution to this...do you have another router on your network (or available to you) brayden? |

I'm guessing he's has the VT1000 connected to his cable modem, and then either a router behind the VT1000, or his PC connected directly to the VT1000, and wants to either do port forwarding, or make sure certain ports (in this case 2300-2400) are open and available.
If I recall correctly, all ports are open on the VT1000, but what you can do with the web based configuration is port FORWARDING. That is, port 3389 (for Terminal Server) is already open, but the interface would allow you to say: Any traffic for port 3389 should be forwarded to 192.168.1.201 (your PC or server running the Terminal Service). I have something similar on mine.
That being the case, if you have just one PC connected behind the VT1000, the ports are open and you should be in business. If you have a switch or router (Linksys or Netgear for example), behind the VT1000 with multiple PC's connected to it, then you'd go into the web based configuration for that device and open the ports there.
Does that make any sense? |
