Stutter tone and the message waiting light are different signals. Some phones don't have true message waiting lights.
In my experience (in telephony repair), some phones detect the stutter tone to light the light, and quite a few actually have a Caller ID notification rather than Message Waiting notification. Apparently it's cheaper to omit the circuitry necessary to detect the Message Waiting Indicator signal sent. Usually, these types require you to view the new caller id info, or even to manually turn off the light if you want it to turn off. (I actually had one that required the manual operation...)
When provisioning voicemail in our system, there are separate options for providing stutter tone only, and stutter tone with MWI. I wonder if it works in a similar way with Vonage. (they can turn it on and off.) |

In practice, message notification is a low priority for the voice mail system and it's sometimes tardy in sending the message. |
Ain't that the truth. I think voicemail is the weakest link in the Vonage system.
I love my Vonage service -- except for the voicemail. Stutter tone and emails with voice mail attachments take a long time to arrive. The voicemail administrative prompts are often garbled beyone recognition. |

I spend a lot of time on my Vonage line as I work from home. The message indicator light and studder tone are not 100% on any carrier to inlude SBT, MCI and AT&T from my experience. I am still learning on the technical side of the set up but I find that the Vonage vmail light and studder tone work better than my last carrier "MCI". where it would remain for 4-5 days at a time.
