Hi, I just signed up for Vonage and haven't recieved my stuff yet.
I have comcast cable internet. I did the speed test and my results are Download 4,114,240 bps Upload 351,752 bps QOS 94% RTT 88 ms MaxPause 63 ms
Its says i can run 4 lines.
I am in the seattle area.
Will I have any problems with Vonage? Is this a good enough connection to not have any downtime or anything wrong. I have a really bad internet router(in my opinion its cheap) will this affect Vonage? I am very new, and would appreciate any feedback.
Thanks |

I'm new too, and I don't have my stuff yet, but since there's probably not to many insomniacs up this late, I'll chime in.
Based on what I've been told and found out researching online...
Your connection looks good. Seems solid. Your old router (I've got an old one too) will work. You just want to put your Vonage box first in the chain after the Cable modem, then plug the router into the Vonage box.
That's cause the Vonage box has a load handling priortizing disgronificator in it called QoS, that puts the voice stream first.
Other than that, looks like you're ready for liftoff! This is a good place to hang out...lots of experts and Vonage techs hang out here. |

hey zip, let me ask you...
so do we realy ned to turn on QOS on the box AFTER the adapter in your above scenario? i have mine set up just as you state; modem, adapter, wrt54gs, computers (wired/wireless). i just set mine up yesterday and im using the house wiring.. numbers still being ported..
so . in this case, is QOS on the wrt54gs needed (i personally dont think so but thats why im asking)? i posted my results elsehwere and they are good.. |

qos is needed on the first box after the cable modem, unless you have absolutely nothing plugged into it (so why would the box be there anyway) you don't state what adapter you have, but it must be a router so you have qos on it. have you set it up yet? at any rate, the wrt54gs is a better router and imo you should have it first (with qos on) and the Vonage device plugged into it. |

reebok, i have the router from Vonage first, the rt31p or whatever.. it has QOS on and then i have the wrt54 gs behind it. QOS is not on on the wrtp 54gs. so you are saying in your opinion the wrt 54 gs should be first and the adapter second? if so, then turn on QOS on the wrtp 54 gs and have priority set to the adapter? all my network equipment is linksys. i have 4 computers, one main pc direct to the router and 2 roaming laptops (with speedbooster cards) and one wireless desktop. |

cool. ill smoke over my current setup first and if it goes down or starts to act silly ill siwtch it over.. thanks for the confirmation.
ooh let me ask one more..
so if i do your setup do i turn off QOS on the adapter if its AFTER the wrt54gs or keep it on? may be a dumb question but i have to ask it to be sure. |

, so i lied reebok.. one more question...
so on the wrt54gs, i enable QOS and give the adapter on the port its on high priroity right? so i enable that. so , what about the port that the wired computer is on? do i enable that and set it to low priroity? just need some clarification there. apologies for the questions...
this is if i put the wrt54gs first after the modem.. |

just do it and see what works for you. there's a thousand variables. search if you want more info or someone else may swoop in with their opinion, but there's no real definitive way of doing this. personally I use port priority for the rt31p2 and nothing else. the help pages on the qos screen of the wrt54g also have good info (or maybe it was the manual, try both) |
