Anyone have any suggestions on how to transfer an SBC landline that currently has remote call forwarding? By definition, there is no service address associated with such a number, since all calls are forwarded out of the telco central office to a predefined number. (I have a billing address, but that's different) Vonage requires a service address to process a number transfer.
I've been exchanging emails with Vonage and SBC for weeks without success. SBC says there is no service address and that the number transfer is the responsibility of Vonage. Vonage says SBC must provide a service address before they can process the number transfer.
SBC has actually suggested that I find someone who lives in the geographic area served by my number who will agree to having my number physically hooked up at their residence, which will result in my then having a "service address"! There has to be a better way.
I've wondered how Vonage processes cell phone transfers. After all, cell phones have a billing address, but no physical service address, which is the situation I find myself in.
Any ideas??
Thanks Marvin |

Use the address associated with whatever number it eventually ends up at. That shouldn't cause any problems with a port because the service record on the line should be whatever record is on the line where it ends up at - but of course so much as sneezing at the right time will screw up a port so ymmv |

need to use the address where the RCF is being routed from. So you would need to give us the centrel office it is associated with. |

Already asked SBC about using the CO address. They specifically said that CO locations are confidential due to security concerns. |

I have a similar tale with a different twist - two SBC legacy phone lines are forwarded to our new office, which is outside the SBC service area.
Vonage says the forwarding must be dropped before they can transfer the numbers.
SBC says that if we drop the forwarding, SBC will reclaim the numbers since there is no physical line service.
So are we forever stuck paying SBC just to fwd the numbers until forty years worth of customers who use the old numbers die off?
Any suggestions? |

Verizon and other carriers give us the address of where their RCF numbers are associated to. You may want to contact upper management at SBC for this issue or their Business dept. which handles RCF numbers.
Any RCF numbers are handled by the business dept. Try contacting them they should give you this information. I don't think you need to remove call forwarding to transfer numbers to us. Especially if it is Remote call forwarding. We recommend customers to set that up if they are moving and we know we would not be able to transfer the phone number in time. |

I am surprised to hear you say you can transfer the forwarded line. Here is the e-mail I got from Vonage saying it was impossible;
If you can not remove the Foreign Exchange feature without canceling the number, then we can cancel your order to transfer and make your temporary number a permanent number. Please reply and advise us on how to proceed with your order. Thank You Sincerely, Carlos Customer Care
In addition they said they can not transfer the second line to the Vonage Fax line - we have to use the one assigned by Vonage. Is that correct or another error?
Thanks! |

I am suffering from the same problem with BellSouth. I have provided them the CO Address where the CF is taking place.
I've been working on getting my number transferred since February.
