Post subject: what is a good cordless phone
can anyone tell me a decent cordless phone (w/ answering machine) that works well with
Vonage
? i currently have several old (at least 5 years) cordless phones and one 2 year old answering machine with additional handset set. none of them seem to work very well on
Vonage
or on my verizon line. the clarity is generally very poor and many times (especially on the answering machine handset) i will hear my own voice echoing back to the ear piece. if i switch to another cordless it usually goes away.
so if anyone has any recommendations for a good cordless phone set please share (i know that i don't really need an answering machine if i have
Vonage
voice mail but my fiancée likes to just walk in the house and glance at the answering machine to see if we have messages)
also i am fairly certain that part of my clarity problems is in the wiring. the other day when i went to check out my wiring for the first time i discovered that it is the old "quad" style and not cat5. (see my previous post for pics of my setup:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic6825.html
).
i am wondering though - regardless of weather or not my wires are the quad style or the cat5 style, the signal still travels over 2 wires inside so do i really need to replace all the phone cables in my house or can i just punch down new terminals everywhere? the reason i ask is that i live in a raised ranch where the basement is finished (sheet rocked ceilings) so running cables is a real pain. also i don't plan on living here forever so if when i sell the buyers want to get a standard verizon line, will the quad cable coming from the pole still work with cat5 style if i convert it?
i know this is a lot for one post but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Uniden 5.8Ghz phones are awesome. I practically live on the phone and am very pleased with these. The range is alright, but I'm using them in a solid steel-reinforced poured-concrete building, so the range is probably pretty good in most structures.
