I recently purchased a wrtp54g router and activated my Vonage service. I can't seem to get anyone to confirm whether the low bandwidth and slow internet experiences I'm having is normal. I do not believe this to be normal, does anyone have any suggestions?
LINKSYS WRTP54G (1.037 fware): 954 kpbs down, 565 kbps up D-LINK DI-614 ROUTER: 2664 kpbs down, 556 kbps up
I have Comcast cable internet, I can remove the Linksys/Vonage router and replace it with the D-Link router and still achieve ~2600kpbs up so it's not an issue with Comcast, but appears to be an issue with the router.
Vonage customer service told me to return the router and exchange it...same results.
Anyone else experiencing similar results? Any suggestions? |

It may be something to do with the QOS, but I'm not sure. |

people have complained about this for a long time with the rt31p2 and probably the wrtg54p2 though I don't recall that specifically. I've never seen a resolution, and have no idea why it happens to some people. |

At this point, after hours on the phone with Vonage and Linksys technical support, I'd be happy with someone telling me this is normal or sharing their bandwidth results. |

it's not normal. it works as it should for most. but not for some. if you're interested you can search for some threads on it. |

I have found that I was also having the slowing problem with the router. I disabled wireless completely and the problem is gone. I have the WRTP54G with the 1.00.58 firmware. |

I saw this posted on this site, and it worked great.
To speed things up on the main setup page Disable DNS Proxy, and the insert the DNS 1 & 2 address in the DNS1 and DNS 2 blocks. To get the DNS info, plug your computer directly to the modem (take the router out of the loop, After everything syncs. Go to the command prompt and type in: ipconfig /all . This will give you all the TCPIP info including the DNS addresses.
bman192k posted it on another thread.
That's it. |

Another good setting for DNS is any of the following:
4.2.2.1 4.2.2.2 4.2.2.3 4.2.2.4 4.2.2.5 4.2.2.6
Run a pingplot or tracert to each of the following, plus your local ISP-provided DNS servers, pick the fastest three, and plug them in. |
