janthony -- glad to hear that the opened ports seem to work for you too. I still haven't made a really good test yet.

I agree that there must been changes in the last 2 or 3 weeks.. It is my guess that Vonage is making changes to their Voip network/routers. Maybe they are preparing for a new influx of users.

I've been suffering this issue for about a month now, but since I forwarded these ports to the phone adaptor I no longer get cut off after sixteen minutes, and as an added bonus, call quality is much better now. I also used the voice menu on the PAP2 to set it to a static IP address so it would never find itself on a different IP address than the port forwarding.

For the record, my setup is as follows:

Toshiba PCX2600 -> DLink DI-614+ -> Linksys PAP2

I was considering changing the router for one that support QOS but I'm going to hold off for a while and see how my calls work out before putting down the coin on new equipment.

( Oh yeah, first post! <waves to the forum> Smile )

Wish I could say the same. I've gone from dropped calls to a daily internet and phone outage all caused by the RT31. If I power cycle it, everythings back for ....well.... maybe a day max.

Not that I need a new reason to pack this piece of crap up and cancel my service...but today this has caused me to cut short a vacation to come home to check on the pet sitter/pets since they didn't have a phone to use in the house to call anyone in case of a problem. Verizon - dial tone ALWAYS there. Vonage, you never know.

I'M DONE!

,,,variation the theme ... I have a problem with making a call and not hearing the answering party -- I started a new Thread "Don't hear the other person" --- found your thread -- did some trouble shooting and posted the following to my thread: I would appreciate your assistance:

"-- I think I may have some clues:::
(1.) ...using http://www.testyourvoip.com/ to test my connection...I received an error statement : "could not connect to Boston using the standard SIP port (5060)" -- msg went on to say that an alternate port worked ---

(2.) On a thread on this forum I found persons troubleshooting a 16 minute cap on calls -- apparent solution: -- routing ports 5060 --5061, and ports 10000 to 20000 to the IP of the RT31P2 (Unit they were using) from the Applications and Gaming area of the NetGear Router

** I am using a WRTP54G (Linksys Wireless Router with 2 Phone ports) --- If I understand the solution found for the 16 minute cap thread :::: I need to tie the above indicated ports to the IP of the Phone Port -- if I am correct in my interpretation -- the next question is how do I identify the Phone Port IP

---- any assistance is appreciated (5 hours later I'm still waiting for Vonage Tech Support to call me from the queue)"

Again, your assistance is appreciated

anyway...

....I called Tech Support --- Level 2 says the 5060-5061, 10,000-20,000 solution doesn't apply in my case ---

....back to the drawing board

I too had this problem. However, my network was set-up a little weird at the time. At the time I had an SB4100->WRT54GP2->D-LINk 604 acting as a switch->PAP2. Sure enough after 16 minutes it cut off on my end yet the other person could still hear me. After removing the D-LINK 604 and connecting the PAP2 directly to the WRT, and forwarding the ports to it, the problem went away. NOTE: this only happened with the PAP2 line. The WRT calls were fine.

I have this problem also. VERY annoying. . .especially when I'm talkin to MOM and she thinks I keep hangin up no her. . .(Ok ..so actually, it is kinda funny.)

I have a Cisco ATA186 and a Asante Router. I have opened the ports as listed in this forum (thanks guys!). . so. .we'll see what happens.

Just wanted to add my .02 worth.

By the way. . if you have a Cisco ATA186 and want to know what your IP is currently . .

1. Lift your telephone handset off the phone and lay it down.
2. PUSH RED large LED Light/Button on top of unit (ATA) and it will light and stay lit
3. Get back to handset, voice prompts will begin to ask you questions.
4. To hear your current IP - HIT 21# and be READY to WRITE IT DOWN!

Take care!

Sound!

PostPosted: Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:29 pm    Post subject: Hmm - open ports, what if you have 2 ATA's? Reply with quote Back to top

Okay - I see people are having some success by port forwarding to the ATA.

My dilemma is that I have 3 lines on 2 ATA's (motorolla VT1005 and Linksys RT31P2)

I can't port forward to 1 ATA since I need 2 ATA's to accommodate 3 lines.

I am having the same issues, after a while the call drops or either party can't hear.

My setup -

I have the WRT54G hooked up to my SB5100 cable modem with the ATA's behind it.

Any suggestions?
