Thanks to your wife for great detective work! And to you for posting a solution. I will be making some long calls this weekend and will post my results.

Many Thanks -- David

No problem, but I would definitely not call it a solution. It is better than hanging up and calling again, but not a solution. I hope this gets fixed soon or I will have to start looking at other Voip services.

Yes "solution" was a poor choice of words on my part.
I should have used the term "work around".
I certainly agree with you that this is not an ISP specific problem. Vonage needs to elevate this to a Vonage system problem and find a solution.
Lets hope that they will start to take these reports seriously.

Yes, we have contacted Vonage (from cell phone due to hold time and 16 minute problem) and was told that it is an ISP problem and I would have to take it up with them, which is what prompted me to start this thread to see if anyone else was seeing the same thing. I will probably call them back this week and let them know that I know of other people having the exact same problem and see if they tell me anything different.

Same issue here in Raleigh NC USA. I don't know the amount of minutes before the lost of sound. However is has only been happening the for a few days (2 or 3). Maybe we missed out on a fireware upgrade. Who knows?

Not to post another "me too" post, but to give people ammo that this is not an ISP problem, I'm having this same issue. I'm near Pittsburgh, PA, US with Armstrong ZoomInternet (regional cable/ISP). This started for me on Sunday and I have excellent Internet service. My father-in-law (Akron, OH / Time Warner) is also having this problem, starting this past weekend.

The problem happens to me too. The line is dropped after 15 minues. I live in Missouri, St. Louis and use Charter Pipe as ISP.
I am using LInksys PAP2 phone adaptor, Edimax wireless router. INternet speed 2.4 Mb/s - download, 500 kb/s - upload while browsing internet and talking by phone.

Just wondering, do you know what your ISP's IP lease time is? 16 minutes sounds suspiciously similar to the 900 second (15 minute) IP lease time Verizon currently has (and swears they'll have it changed to 24 hours by the end of this week)

My IP hasn't changed in a year.

Also, technically, an IP lease expiring shouldn't do anything to you because the policy of DHCP is to renew the current IP at the halfway point of its time and then again at the end (if the first didn't succeed). Your IP doesn't (shouldn't) change and DHCP lease activity would not be visible past the IP layer on your router or computer. If Verizon is expiring leases in 15 minutes and forcing you onto another IP, that's just plain broken. I've never seen a broadband ISP do that before (and I've had quite a few).
