Hey everyone... been lurking for a few months and signed up for Vonage service. I decided to keep my current phone number when signing up. Well, I received my Vonage package (modem and everything) while out of town a couple weeks ago and haven't install it yet.
My question... I know it can take up to a couple months for the phone number to be switched, but when is your local phone service actually canceled for you? I don't mind waiting for the number to be switched and all, but I don't like possibly having to pay for a couple months of local phone service AND Vonage.
Anyway, is that what happens? Do you just end up paying for both until the number is switched? Is that when the service is finally cut? |

you got the right idea. once the transfer is complete your pots line will not longer work and should be cancelled. shouldnt take 2 months but i'd keep calling Vonage everyweek to get an update. |

Thanks for the reply... let me sure I totally understand though. You still have to pay for the POTS line until the entire process has gone full circle, correct?
It kinda ****. Qwest up in the Portland area charges $35 locally, plus taxes = $50/mo. It would be nice to be able to just cancel that service and not have to pay between $50 - $100 PLUS the monthly Vonage fee. |
