My set up is fiberoptic cable to the ISP owned box on my outside wall - ethernet out - to my Vonage RT31P2 (1.28.00) - to my Linksys BEFW11S4 v2/v3(1.45.10) wireless router - to four computers. I haven't done any set up other than the time on the RT31P2. I have WEP etc. on the wireless router. Everything seems to be working fine but my ISP has suggested that I interpose a switch between their box and the two routers. Are they right? If I ought to have one, what brand and model would you suggest? Thanks. |

besides another layer of hardware firewall security, which is really irrelevant, why would they recommend that? why were you talking to them in the first place that they would say anything? |

I have to agree with Reebok...if it ain't broken don't fix it...You said you don't have any issues, so why throw something else into the mix that could cause them? |

I had a ten day period with a 1 to 4 hour outage each day around noon. I was experiencing a packet loss rate of about 30 percent during those episodes. The repair persons spent a good deal of time monitoring my setup from inside and outside my home. The Grandecom technicians did not explain what they did but It has been up consistently for 8 days. They suggested the switch after the problem was fixed; during their wrap up phone call. Thanks again. |

It sounds like it was more of an issue on their end...I would save your money for now. |
