Hi PAP2 Trapped friends -

now reading, rather studying the topic of unlocking
these PAP2 xxVON Devices, I think it's some
serious hardware inside the box and to most likely not
to Jtag, but to Flash it would take some serious
money ... now I haven't bought the device illegaly Wink
and unless it is actually Vonage property in any
kind of that sense - one should be legally able
to BRUTE FORCE Vonage to unlock on request
or post the TOP SECRET PWD on some TOP SECRET
SITE (like this one), so really bothersome PAP2 Owners
could switch whenever they like and won't keep
bothering.

Now there are maybe 2 ways to get there ...

1. everybody reading this posts starts inmediatelly
to call Vonage Support and requests detailed
information on unlocking PAP2 and why not ...
sure 60times a day and always asking for the
supervisor. Now that will get to the point they
just release the pwd ... because it's just a passoword
you need to UNLOCK the device !

2. CLASS ACTION or CLASS CLAIM ...
meaning all of PAP2 users who see their rights violated,
as of ther personal perspective, inscribe in the post
PAP2 Class Claim and some sleek group of lawyers
will eventually pickup the topic, as they'll find
some other even more interesting aspects in the subject
which could mean a lot of extra $$$ to the law firm -
that's why they start sewing ... and the matter goes
public. - now you know how the rest works ...

just check the topic to see how it's working out Wink
http://www.vonage-forum.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=39908#39908

Please visit the new TOPIC " PAP2 CLASS ACTION

now there's a 3rd option, Vonage will now by now Wink
because it's written right here in between the lines.

talk less BS so you can save even more $$$

best regards

DrNobby

I never said I didn't do my homework; I knew the device was locked to Vonage when I bought it. I just disagree with Vonage's policy. Don't assume you know what I was or am thinking and don't chide me for 'not doing my homework'.

Despite Vonage' bottom of the barrel customer service, I am still a customer after 2.5 years. If I was as naive and uninformed as you presume me to be, I would have cancelled my service long ago for problems I fixed myself - with very little or no help from Vonage.

Ummm, did you read the beginning of this thread? Passwords are box specific. That is why other people tried but it didn't work.

1. If you have enough time to sit there and call Vonage support 60 times a day, I wish I was you...things like everyday life, children, jobs, wives/husbands, sleep, sex, etc have a tendency to get in the way of that. But go right ahead and keep your results posted here. But some could also consider that harassment, so you may find yourself on the wrong side of the coin..Keep us posted on that also

2. Class action suit? Nice try, but you really won't get far. The product does exactly what it is meant to do. Work with Vonage Voip services. That is what it is there to do, not Vonage/ATT?P8 or whatever. So here is your dilema. you bought a box to work with the Vonage network, does everything it is advertised to do, etc. You really won't get far, but again if you have enough time to call 60 times a day you have enough time to try to get this going.

So really DrNobby, since you had enough spare time to create an account to just make that last post, then I have a feeling you have been here before.....

Peter,
Well then if you knew but disagreed with it, then I guess I am at a loss why you signed up for service in the first place..but you are correct I do not claim to what you were/are/shall be thinking.

And good job on solving your problems on your own. But it seemed that the only problem you had was the fact that it was a locked device. So if you solved that problem then what point are you trying to make?

.....

YES Sir, I read that, ... that's why I write - it's ONLY a password
you need to unlock it my friend ... it's not a cruise missile, it's a VCD Processor Smile

And as you reaffirm, each box has a specific password - now there's only ONE algorithm for the entire familly of little PAP2's and with that, each little smurf can become happy again.

Now tell me, what do lawyers to get some press or some money ? ... NO - tell me what they don't do, that's easier !

Now my time, it's quite unlimited - as of many fellow PAP2 owners ... as we cannot talk over our Voip PAP2 connections, we have plenty of spare time to kill with "whatever" ... who can have sex 24/7 Smile

I think I need to do some promotion for the new post, so people actually can find it. ?! I'll use the weekend for that.

best regards

Did you ever think of saying you had an issue with the Pap2 while on tech support, as it is easy to get escalated, and you can always say that each fix they try "didn't work" and they will give you the password? No need for a class action suit, just a need of a piece of paper and a pen to write it down with...not that I condone that course of action, but that will be a hell of alot easier for you...

I am a happy Vonage customer, but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to get the devices password out of Techsupport...

Hi Trowski, I think we are getting there ...
now what would you theoretically suggest to ask TechSupport
to get it done - as of what I read, sure that's not first hand info,
there's no way to get even the second line activated on another
Provider ... even with tha PAP2 advertised as a 2 PORT Voip Adaptor - should I really suppose to get 2 Vonage contracts, 1 for each port LOL ... I guess not ...

So please - give me another hint and we are through with it.

So, that right there could be a problem.

I got my PAP2-NA's on eBay (from compudation FWIW). Make sure any listings specifically emphasize "unlocked" somewhere. There used to be a big problem with folks thinking they were getting unlocked pap2-na's and ended up getting a Vonage locked device.

I also have Sipura SPA-1001's and a bunch of other devices from voipsupply.com. Why a PAP2-NA over a SPA-2000? The PAP2-NA looks much cooler, but thats it. There are some serious downsides because you can't download firmware updates from the manufacturer. You have to find them on the net somewhere.

Vonage PAP2's use custom firmware. If you reset them, they restore the locked settings. If you can figure out how to flash them with unlocked firmware you should be truely free. Except you need the admin passwords for that.

I currently use Grandstream GXP2000's and Sipura SPA-841's at home and ended up dumping most of the ATA devices. ATA's are just an inferior legacy bandaid. IP phones leave them in the dust, especially when you use something like Asterisk.

And speaking of asterisk, I'm using mine with Vonage for incoming calls. I added a softphone account (which they tell you the username/passwords to use). Then I turned off voicemail, set the forward and network availability numbers to point to the softphone, and unplugged the Vonage ATA. The main -> softphone forwarding counts as an in-network call. I use another provider (teliax) for outgoing phone calls. I can't use Vonage for outgoing calls because the callerid is wrong (its forced to be the softphone number, which I dont want anybody using). I'm planning to wait and see what the fallout from the FCC 911 mandate is and who stays in business before porting my incoming number back from Vonage. Anyway, its expensive (two Vonage accounts, using zero outgoing minutes), but the flexibility is worth it to me. At one point a Vonage person put in a ticket to swap the numbers between the softphone and the main line, but it never happened.

You can unlock your VT1000 using instructions on the web (search for "0xdecafbad vt1000 unlock". However, the site that had the info I used is seems to be currently down. Bah.

However.. it won't do you much good. The VT1000 works like a cable modem. It is controlled by a remote provisioning system and there is no way for you to actually configure the device without one. You just simply can't enter any settings directly on the unlocked device. All you can do is point it to a different "provisioning server".

Anyway, don't buy an unlock from Vonage for a VT1000/1005.. it is totally useless to you and a waste of money. Send the box back and recover your disconnect fee. If you want an unlocked ATA, get one from somewhere like voipsupply or ebay.
