Post subject: Internet Indicator Light...
OK, I have no dial tone. In my investigation, I have noticed that both phone lights are off and the internet light is flashing quickly. The manual says that this means that the router is sending or receiving information?????
When I go to
http://192.168.15.1
to try to reset things (really don't know what I am doing, so all I do is look and click to another tab), the settings tab says that the router is still re-starting?????
Anyone know what is going on here? Anyone that can help me????

might be a dead phone/voip component of the router. try this reset:
unplug power, unplug phone cords, push and hold reset button, plug power back in while holding reset button, keep holding reset button for 15 seconds after powering back on. keep an eye on the power light, and don't plug the phones back in (or power the box off) until it stops blinking.
if it still says "restarting..." I would guess it's dead.

Thank you. I tried that (twice actually), still no response. Don' t really understand how my router could have died (I thought I was feeing and watering it well..haha). Is this something I could have avoided?
I guess my next step is to call customer service and spend a couple of hours on the phone tring to get this taken care of...
thanks for the help.

tobikay, could you give us more information on your setup. I.e. what comes after what etc. Cable modem (model#) -> router(rt31p2) -> computer.
Also tell us how they are connected. (i.e. cable modem to router "internet" port) etc.
Lastly do you have a second router?

OK, I have the following set-up
Moterola SB5100 Cable Modem connected to my Linksys RT31P2 from the ethernet port on the modem to the internet port on the router. Linksys is then connected to D-Link DI-514 wireless router from the ethernet port on the Linksys to the WAN port on the wireless router. Wireless router is then connected to my computer.
This set-up has worked great until yesterday sometime. Don't know what could have changed. I emailed customer service, they told me to do the same things I have already seen posted here and have already tried, but I tried them one more time before replying that that doesn't work, how are we going to fix this? I really don't want to use all my cell minutes talking to them (or holding for them)..do you seem to get faster service at off times, ie, late at night?
thanks again

tobikay,
sorry for the long delay in responding. I was out of town the last few days and so didn't have the time to respond.
First, I am a bit concerned and would seriously consider Reebok's post since you said that it worked fine until the other day. Which means that you had everything set up appropriately until it stopped working.
The only thing that comes to mind is that the rt31p2 is not set to cloning mac addresses as default and so if you reset it to factory default, it would also erase any cloning you have done. Could that be a problem in its inability to connect to
Vonage
?
That is, did you clone the mac address of your DI-514 or your computer because your ISP only permits 1 ip address? Let me know if this might be something to investigate.

Mundy5, I am sorry, I have absolutly no idea what you are talking about. You are over my head with talk of cloning mac addresses and such. I have actually finally gotten a response from customer service (after I finished off my cell minutes). They told me to try to re-set the factroy defaults, which I tried to do, but I repeatedly got the message "settings failed", I emailed them back with that information, got no response. Then on saturday, I tried to email them again, gave them the same information, told them the result of attempting to restore defautls, their response was "this means your router is damages, please give me your address so that I can send you a new one".
Now I am angry because this information should have been given to me several days ago and I could already have phone service now, but that isn't what happened. Still working with them on making me happy, lets see if they can.

tobikay,
I apologize if I was speaking in technolese. I am glad to hear that
Vonage
has determined that it was a bad router. That is of course the simplest solution. I hope that they can get a new router to you overnight at least as compensation for your cell phone minutes.

Wow...! This is i sharp contrast to what is being discussed in this thread...
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic6908.html
Seems it is better to let
Vonage
send you the router (new customers) vs. buying one retail!
I have never thought of the router failing. That would be a major inconvenience for me. I guess I have the cell to get me by, but I am glad I let
Vonage
supply the router. Seems it gets handled faster that way!
tobikay... please keep us posted as to how this all works out for you, i.e. how long it takes to get the new router, etc.

That thread is a different situation becuase they bought their device in a retail store.
Vonage
I have found is more than happy to replace their device if you received it free from them, which I am assuming Tobikay did....But if you go retail then it is ALOT more of a hassle I have seen because technically it was not purchased/given away direct from
Vonage
.
They replaced mine once and overnighted me a new one so I had very minimal downtime.
Tobikay, is the new RT being mailed or overnighted?
