People calling my Vonage line complain that sometimes when they call it sounds like they are connecting to a fax machine. I do not have a fax machine and my Vonage line is not connected to a computer. This happens intermittently.

Anyone have this experience?

I've had this same problem, I had the problem even when I had my pots line with Qwest.

I've got to believe that since I've changed from Qwest to Vonage and am still getting it that it's got something to do with the wiring inside my house. It doesn't happen all the time, but I've had no luck figuring it out. I;ve got no computers or fax lines, but I do have an adt alarm system.

It's the modem in your home security system. It needs a few seconds to reset itself between receiving calls. Nothing to do with Vonage.

People complain to me about the same problem when they call sometimes. I have no idea what the problem is. Nothing else is hooked up.

I don't see any activity that would indicate the modem has just received or made a call.

I strongly disagree with dcw22 on this topic for one reason. The assumption that a security system or similar device has been installed without first ascertaining it's presence. That is not my situation, nor of the callers known to me. With few exceptions, it occurs with one particular caller, however, I spend a large amount of time conversing with that caller who happens to be on Vonage, therefore a Vonage/Vonage call.
I have experienced the Fax Tone problem during the last 5 weeks at intermittent times, usually once a week. Ordinarily, it's preceeded by ONLY four touch-tones in rapid succession, and anywhere from one to three brief fax tones, then ceases. Neither I or the above party who calls me have a fax connected, and his TiVo(tm) does not initiate a Fax Tone, or would transmit just 4 touch tones as that would be an incomplete number for that device to update! Besides, he's checked his TiVo settings, and all are proper. I strongly believe this to be a switching error somewhere in Vonage.

Same here as far as the setup. I have no alarm system and the Vonage device is connected to the only phone in my house. It's not connected to any inside wiring. This is a Vonage problem.
