Interested to know if the issues everyone is having with the WRT54G should be, or are, causing issues on the model with the 2 phone jacks (WRT54GP2). I have the GP2 and have had issues for a while now and had to have the unit replaced once but can find no listed firmware updates.

I seem to be having a different issue with this router. As of earlier today (after 4 days of owning the router), the router just will not stay operational after a boot for more than 10 seconds before it reboots itself. Over and over again, the router will reboot itself, for hours, until I unplug it.

I have tried everything from cable management to resetting to factory defaults, to no avail. I have never tried any sort of updates on this router, and there are no strange connections to it whatsoever - it just completely stopped working today.

I had noticed a few strange occurances in the last couple days, such as 1-way calls, but didn't think anything of it. I will be promptly returning this product with my first taste of Vonage quite sour.

Just signed up yesterday with vonage(internet connection with old linksys router rock solid-never lost sync or connection). This router seems to lose internet connection occasionally & then requires a shutdown of the speedstrem modem (1-2 mins) & router before it will reconnect.
Won't reconnect from the status page if logged in to the router-just endlessly keeps trying to connect over & over.
Any suggestions? Wait for the next automatic update of the firmware? When is that expected?

DSL is pacbell PPPOE with speedstream modem
firmware is currently 1.00.37

you are correct, it may not have been the heat. But without a fan this hardware runs very hot in my opinion.

I am returning the unit and am trying a different linksys phone adapter.

In my opinion this router is simply not worth the money or time it takes to keep the netowrk running.. Why would anyone want to worry continually about hardware failures and be ready with a backup router or phone adapter when the failure occurs.

There is absolutely no way saving a few $ is worth the agony of taking care of a cheap poorly designed router, firmware will not fix the problems this unit has. Two hardware failures in 5 weeks, i do not have the desire to spend my free time making sure this piece of junk is working when I get up in the morning.

The wrtp54g is simply a flawed piece of hardware that was sold to the public with the promise of rebates.

In my opinion, if you can, return it now

yeah i was this close to buying it but after reading the horror stories here i let it be and just received the free adapter from vonage.. im sure there are a lot of these wrtp54 routers our there that work well but there was just to many folks on this site and another site who had poor results from this $$$ device. i have all linky products, form the aircards to the modem and router and adapter and they all play nice together...

Bought the WRTP54G last night. Experienced alot of connection drops with comcast. Keep having to reset both the Cable Modem and the Router. Got one phone call to connect last night but it dropped off after 5 min. I upgraded the Firmware from the 1.00.20 out of the box, to the 1.00.37. Internet connection still keeps dropping. Plan on trying the .29 Firmware tonight, but after spending several hours last night with this I am rather annoyed. Anyone have any additional suggestions, and or can we get a statement from Vonage on how they are going to support/rectify these issues.

When my second WRTP54G failed. I followed the RMA process with Linksys.

The router was replaced with a WRT54GP2.

Anyone know if this will be any more reliable then the WRTP54G. Was this a trade up or down?

Is anybody else having problems with firmware 1.0.37? My router originally came with 1.0.20(?). Upgraded to firmware 1.0.29 and it seemed all problems went away. Vonage updated firmware, without my knowledge or consent, to 1.0.37. Then I started to have problems with one way audio and calling out was useless. (I'd call support but they probably wouldn't hear me anyway.) I went back to 1.029 and ,so far, all is well. The only other alternatives are to reinstall RT31P2 but cannot activate phone port. (Says it's invalid MAC but this is my original router from Vonage, go figure) or dump Vonage because of poor performance and service. (Is anybody out there??)
Oh speed results:
Download: 2,770,384 bps
Upload: 373,440
QoS: 71%
RTT: 43ms
MaxPause: 70ms.
ISP: Comcast,(which I've had for over 10 years with minimal problems)
Modem: Motorola SB5120
Any thoughts?
