My story is to long to write out, but it has been all documented at the following link:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13773181
Here is the latest email from Vonage:
Dear xxxxxx xxxx, In response to your inquiry, I would like to take the time to explain to you the specifications on portability not available in your area.
We are associated with carriers that serve as rate centers in areas throughout the U.S. Unfortunately, Osage Beach, MO is not currently available as a rate center by the carrier.
I hope I explain the formality as descriptive as possible and we do wish to have your patronage in the future.
Thanks Lnp dept
Do the following after reading the above email:
As of 7/4/05 3:33PM
1. Go to www.vonage.com 2. Click on Availability 3. There is a box labeled " Check if you can keep your current number here: " 4. Enter 573-348 5. Click on Submit. 6. You will get the message "Our records indicate you can keep your current telephone number!"
This is very deceiving. My 573-348 phone number is an Osage Beach, MO number, but according to the email "Osage Beach, MO is not currently available as a rate center by the carrier.
I have been informing Vonage over the phone and through email for almost 1 week now about this probem. It's almost like they are baiting people into signing up because it says "Our records indicate you can keep your current telephone number!" Then sending them an email saying they can't port it. Is this a normal practice for Vonage especially when they have been informed as to what their website is telling potential customers? |

I have the very same issue with a (309) 691 number. The availability site says I can transfer my number but it doesn't pan out. I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone at Vonage so I pulled my request.
Oh well. |

Vonage is so #@1%ed up. I received the following email today:
Dear xxxxxx xxxx,
We are pleased to inform you that your request to transfer 1-(573)-348-xxxx from your current carrier to Vonage was accepted on July 14, 2005. The process of moving your number to Vonage is almost complete.
Your expected transfer date is July 14, 2005.
When the transfer is complete we will inform you immediately by email.
Thank you for your business. As always, if you have any questions, Sincerely,
Vonage Customer Care Number Transfer Department
Email: numbertransfer@vonage.com Phone: 1-866-496-6359
My normal phone line still works so no transfer has taken place. |

Good luck with the transfer. Keep me posted as we have a small place at Osage Beach also. In fact, heading there this weekend for a week.
