Post subject: What does "number wasn't ported" mean?
After weeks and weeks of waiting for my number to be switched from Sprint to
Vonage
, I received the e-mail that it would happen on June 29. Sprint disconnected me but
Vonage
wasn't prepared to take over. I contacted CS, in India I am quite sure, and got passed around so much I just gave up. Someone said my virtual number would work until they could get me up and running, but it doesn't work either. I then received and email that said the transfer did take place but that my number had not been ported. Is this going to take another 9 1/2 weeks? I have no incoming phone service. Has this happened to anyone and if so, what did you do?

I had the same problem, or at least a similar one.
I kind of chronicled my problems here:
http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic6025.html
But in short, Qwest disconnected my phone once they released my number.
Vonage
did not pick up the number right away. I called Qwest a few times and they said the number was released to X/O Communications (the 3rd party company that
Vonage
uses for porting numbers). I didn't have incoming phone service for 2.5 weeks or so. I kept calling and eventually the number was ported completely.
I may call Sprint to see who they released the number too (who the 3rd party LPN company is in your area) and then call
Vonage
a few times. Just keep on them.
Good luck.
