I got my new Linksys RT31P2 yesterday in the mail, I hooked it up just like the directions said, however whenever I picked up the phone, no dial tone, just a message that said my phone may be plugged into the wrong port try the other port or go online to make sure your account is active.

I have one computer hooked up to an ambit modem with charter pipeline for my isp.

I called customer care several times over a 7 hour period to get the same response, they kept telling me that my mac id wasn't activated, I got the device from Vonage. Finally I got someone who said he would personally hand my problem to a tier 3 tech. I last got an email back from him telling me that my mac id was activated and should work.

I reinstalled and rebooted everything, still the same message, and I can't get a response from customer care about what the problem might be, can anyone help me before I box this back up and send it back.

I don't know if this is significant or not but both phone led lights have been off the whole time, they only blink when I tried rebooting then they stay off.

when you go to http://192.168.15.1 (user name can be anything or blank, password is admin) and access the Status page, what does it say for Line1 and/or Line2 status?
it does sound like it could be a potential mac issue. usually the phone lights blink every so often when they can't connect for some reason. but if the system is saying "I don't recognize you" maybe they shut off? no idea, just a guess. also, check the upper right hand corner at 192.168.15.1 and post the firmware version and voice version which is also on the status page.

Thank you so much for trying to help but my aggrivation level has hit it's peak, I'm sending the equipment back and cancelling my account. I'm off to buy two tin cans and a string, I know this will definately work better than Vonage does.
