Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I was able to successfully complete a LNP Transfer on a Verizon # in the NYC Metro Area. I have DSL on the line.

June 2, 2005 Awaiting Letter of Authorization
June 3, 2005 Letter of Authorization (LOA) Received
June 4, 2005 Transfer Sent to Carrier
June 21, 2005 Carrier Approved Transfer
June 23, 2005 Completed LNP Transfer

The process I followed:

6/1/2005: Changed Verizon DSL billing to credit card from billing to Verizon phone bill.
6/3/2005: LOA filed with Vonage using online method, stating I did not have DSL on the line.
6/4/2005: Email received from LNP transfer dept @ Vonage stating I had to remove DSL from the line prior to proceeding.
6/4/2005: Email sent to LNP transfer dept @ Vonage stating my area was capable of 'dry loop with announcement', 'or naked DSL'.
6/7/2005: Vonage acknowledged receipt of my email and stated the transfer was progressing.
6/23/2005: LNP transfer completed - flawlessly. Existing POTS line when picking up receiving rings once and an automated message states repetitively: 'This is a dedicated data only line. Calls may not be placed or received'. Incoming calls ring on correct #.

I am beginning the saga of porting my number from Verizon w/DSL. I found out from Verizon that they have a new group called the Encore Group to handle issues like this. The direct number is 800-688-2880. They claim that Vonage needs to do 2 things, 1. Request porting the number and 2. Request from VerizonOnline to establish a Dry Loop (Naked DSL) for the DSL service. I've been on hold for an hour now with Vonage (in fact, I think they hung up on me - the music is gone!) to see if they know of this procedure. Good luck, anyone with Verizon.

I am moving and ordered new phone service. I asked specifically about naked DSL and Verizon claims -- at least where I am moving in Queens (718) area code, that they do not offer naked DSL.

Where have people succeeded in getting naked DSL from Verizon?

thanks!

Hi Joshua,

I am in White Plains, NY (~30 mi North of NYC). I wouldn't call Verizon to try to find out - none of the reps have any idea what it even is. All I did was tell Vonage my area was capable of Naked DSL / Dry Loop with Announcement. The LNP transfer went through flawlessly.

See my last posting - Verizon reps normally have no idea whether they offer it or not. I just put in the LNP transfer and when Vonage stated I had DSL, I told them my area was capable of the transfer (without ever calling Verizon to confirm) and bam it worked.

One other item I should add - my Verizon DSL is billed at $29.95/mo + $2.99 FUSF Recovery Fee + $1.91 tax recovery fee = $34.85. This is my only charge from Verizon on a monthly basis.

hey kesco, sorry if this is a dumb question. Why did you state on 6/3 that you had no DSL on the line? And why did Vonage state on 6/4 that you needed to remove DSL from the Line? Don't you need DSL to get naked DSL? Or, put another way, don't you need DSL to get Vonage service?

Also, are you saying that you used to have local POTS from Verizon and they they just stopped charging you for that service after the LNP request went through?

Thanks for your help. Verizon is not making this easy!

Hi there .. I've always had DSL. The reason why I told Vonage I didn't have DSL on the Verizon POTS line is because Vonage wouldn't even *try* to process the LNP Transfer if I stated I had it during their signup.

As for your second question - you hit the button, Verizon completely stopped charging me for the POTS service after the LNP was completed. The only bill I now receive is from Verizon Online - charged to my cc - nothing from Verizon for the telephone line.

Another question for you, kesco. Why did you change your Verizon account to credit card billing? Is that necessary for this all to have worked?

Thanks

Because or else Verizon DSL would have no way to bill you except via USPS, which technically isn't one of their billing options.
