Hi all, Is it possible for one to setup the voicemail so a caller does not have to press * to leave voicemail, then press # to send the voicemail etc etc, I find that the process of leaving someone using Vonage voicemail is rather cumbersome, cant it be setup like a regular telephone answering machine which says start recording at the beep and then stops when the person hangsup?
I know I could probably turn voicemail on Vonage off and use my answering machine but I like the voicemail notification features and woud like to continue to use Vonage voicemail.
Thanks |

In fact, this is exactly how I use it. I've never even known any other way, nor have I heard of your way of using it. Are you sure you've set it up correctly? |

I concur with you YMEE, I get a lot of flak about the complicated voicemail from most of the folks who leave a message for me. It was probably designed by the same gent that invented the maze Vonage installed to call Customer Service |

ymee et all,
My experience with voicemails is that you can treat it like an answering machine by simply hanging up after you leave your message. Pressing other keys on the dialpad after recording your message is in the event that you wish to give the message a higher priority or other options. You can give instructions in your greeting to simply leave a message and hang up once they are done leaving you a message. I must admit, I haven't tried Vonage's voicemail yet but I believe it should work the same way.
Pressing # or other special keys on the dialpad is when the person leaving the message didn't like their message. If they wish to change it vonage's voicemail allows the user to erase the previous message and record a new one. These are all extras that most people could care less about but it's important for those who are leaving an important voicemail say for business purposes. |

I appreciate knowing that mundy5. The only fly in the ointment is that it doesn't do much good for me to know that... It's the caller's that are complaining.
It is a trivial problem and not worth complaining about though.
I need to stick to "Why doesn't Vonage include my area code in their coverage?" |

OldSnipe,
if the callers are having trouble with the voicemail, maybe you should include instructions in your greeting such as "please hang up the phone once you leave your message" so that the callers will not have to mess around with all these other options. |

How about; " Hello, If you would like the exchange rate for Hong Kong dollars please press 1. If you would like to order a peperoni pizza please press 2. If you want to chat with the Snipe, please hang up and call again later cuz he ain't here now."
That should "Get Er Done" |

try accessing your voicemail options, pressing 9, then 4 (undocumented) http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic5064.html
is your Vonage phone actually hooked up and are you using it yet? usually this message goes away on its own after you use the service, but it has it when you haven't used Vonage yet (as far as I can tell). |

I have had Vonage a few months and the voicemail still gives these options.
Also:
When I press 4 the only option it gives me at that point is to turn incoming callback numbers on... prompting the caller to leave their number after recording their message. Should there be more options? | Quote: | | try accessing your voicemail options, pressing 9, then 4 (undocumented) |

vonaerger are you saying that some people have simpler voicemail without all these annoying options? |
