thank you for the quick replies. I was hoping there was a solution within the Vonage program itself. |

Kingtek,
I am not a lawyer, but I do recall hearing that it is illegal, in some states of the United States, to make a voice recording of someone without their knowledge, hence, the periodic beep, when a call is being recorded in some instances. I imagine that, technically it would be possible to record a conversation from a Voip conversation. I suppose though, that there are legal considerations, plus, it would need loads of hard drive space on the Vonage computers. Then, they would require a way to send that sound file to you. That really would not be such a problem. Along the same lines, I would like to see a feature where if your fax machine is not connected to yoru fax line, or if a fax line is down or the adapter is not connected to a router, that any fax sent to a designated fax line which is disconnected would be stored until a the line is reconnected and a fax machine is again connected. That way, you would not lose faxes if they are sent when the adapter box is off line or being moved from one location to another.

Why does everyone assume illegal activity? |

No no no, not that at all...I was implying wether legal conversation or not, you just can't record it...
I place IT consultants for a living, and at my old company we used to call the client with the contractor on the line, then say we are dropping out but still listening, and sometimes record them for training...we almost got into a HEAP of trouble by not stating "this call is being recorded for training, quality" or what have you |

Kingtek,
The issue is not whether you are recording some conversation about illegal or illegal activity, it is just that ANY voice recording without notifying both parties could be illegal.

Since so many people have been bringing up if its legal or not for you to record your own calls etc.. check here
http://www.answerstat.com/articles/3/12.html
In some states if one person gives concent (ie you are recording your own call) its legal, in some others you have to let them know.
In canada as long as one person gives concent its legal.
As for how to do it, i saw some software a little while ago that allowed it through packets, its been a while but you may have better luck just searching the web. Also it may be easier still just to get a Virtual phone option from venge to use from your computer and simply record. Don't know, haven't had to do it myself yet |
