I have moved to an area with a pretty non-existent crime rate, but for piece of mind I want to get at least a basic security system. I have Vonage only, and no traditional telephone service. I've looked at alarm.com, and NextAlarm, with the latter the more attractive given my basic needs. I've done a few searches, and found some great info here, but I have a few more questions, that I was hoping someone here might be able to answer from personal experience.
1. NextAlarm offers the ABBRA unit, and touts its ease of installation. Has anyone installed it, and is it truly easy to install? 2. If I would every switch alarm monitoring companies, is this unit transferrable/useable by another company? 3. From reading some of the ABBRA manuals, it looks like it runs off of a power cord? Am I correct about this, and, if so, could a burglar simply unplug the cord to disable the system? 4. Does the installation requiring cutting or fishing wires through walls? 5. Are there any other options I am not considering, that I should consider? My home is networked with cat5e cable, with the network panel next to the fuse box in the basement. My router and cable modem are located next to the network panel as well. I'm guessing that my ideal setup would be a keypad (near the entrance door) that communicates wirelessly with the brains of the unit (alarm control panel?), with the latter panel being located in my basement and plugged into my router there using the adapter suggested by NextAlarm.
Thanks for any input. |
