Has anyone else had problems trying to use a modem; not a cable modem, but an analog data modem. I work from home sometimes and some systems to which I need to connect are dial-up access. I can connect but the connection hangs and sometimes locks up. |

What sort of speeds are you connecting at? If it's higher than 28.8, you might want to try locking your modem into a lower speed.
Go to Device Manager, and find your modem. Under the Advanced tab, try putting "+MS=V34" (without the quotes) in extra initialization commands. That string works for a lot of modems, but not all.

For my modem, these are all the available +MS= commands: AT+MS=? +MS:(V21,V22,V22B,V23,V32,V32B,V34,V90,K56FLEX,V92),(0,1),(0,300-56000),(0,300-56000)
The V.34 setting tells it to act like a 28.8 modem, but you might want to play around and try to find a better balance between speed and reliability. MS stands for Maximum Speed, and as you can see, it has several optional parameters. You probably could, for example, have it use V.92, but with a maximum rate of 36000bps. |
