I just installed the cable internet service along with the new linksys WRTP54G router. I found on the "status" tab-->"voice", the "information" part showed "provisioning failed". On the sample image of this page in the router's manual, it should show the version of Voice firmware.

And another thing is, one of my friends who has Verzion wireless was trying to call me. The phone rang, but when I picked it up we could not hear each other. However, I asked other friends who use cingular cell to call me, no problems at all. And I tried to place calls, no problem either.

Anyone knows about this kinda problem?

you can place calls to verizon wireless with no problem right? cell phones still drop calls and have issues, so make sure he was in a place it usually works.

if you see "provisioning failed" on any of the "RTP" devices, its a bug, which will be fixed in the next firmware. there is nothing wrong with your device

The thing is when I called his verizon number, I could only leave a message flawlessly. He actually could not hear my voice either when he picked up. Same thing happened when he called me back. We could not start any conversation. But I tried to call other number, most of which are cingular wireless, and they called me back, both ways were fine. Since I just installed the service for one day, I haven't made a lot of calls.

I called Vonage through my line this morning, a rep told me that fhe "provionsing fail" due to my internet service having an extremely slow download rate under UDP protocol which Vonage used for the telephone service. And the router gives up the attempt of downloading the voice firmware for the slow rate. Therefore, the incomplete firmware caused the partially working telephone. I wonder if what he said was correct, I might need to forward the specific UDP port Vonage are using to my LAN IP, just as what I did for some game and software.

Any idea about this specific port?

well Vonage uses tftp (port 69) to push firmware updates, but here is an explanation for the failed firmware downloads:
