Just for all of you interested in E-911 Info.

Right now Vonage is Testing E-911 for the NY/NJ area and the word on the street "actually the water cooler Smile " is that E-911 is going to be available for customers January 2006. This is the target but it is NOT a SURE THING. It is a very tentatively set date but I do know that their is pressure for them to have it in place in January.

Now the question becomes who do we put our faith in, the "water cooler" crowd or the Vonage newsletter. The end of last week I received the Vonage newsletter in the mail dated Summer 2005 and there is an article regarding the rollout of E911. Below is a snippet of that article which says Vonage plans to launch E911 in NYC in July.

"E911 service gives us the capability to deliver both caller location and call back number automatically to 911 emergency services personnel. These partnerships are in-line with our continued effort to not only provide E911 service to our customers, but improve all aspects of your Vonage service. In fact, we plan to launch E911 as soon as July in New York City and we already have it up and running in Rhode Island"

So, which is it ?

Why are you confused? They are testing it in NYC and will rollout elsewhere by end of year. Seems to be similiar to me.

Newsleter says:

In my opinion launching and testing isn't the same....So are they testing NY/NJ and it will be availble and working in January 2006, which rcb116 says is a target and not a sure thing, or will it be launched and working in NY/NJ this month as the newsletter states.

I activated 911 as Vonage instructed from the beginning so I am not really concerned. I think what spreads the confusion and raises the issue is the terminology being used. If it is in testing, then the newsletter should have stated that E911 was being tested in NY/NJ in July and they hope to have it operational in January. It actually says it is being launched in July with no mention of testing.

OK, let me clarify. It will be up and running in NY but think of it as a BETA TEST. So will it be up and running? YES! Is it also being tested before it is rolled out to the rest of the country. YES!

I apologize for any confusion but I thought it was clear that it was being launched and that this launch was sort of a test (hence the reason the rest of the country will not have it till 2006)

I will try to be more specific in the future.

rcb116.......I understood exactly what you were saying and I understod your comments perfectly, they just didn't mess with the newsletter we all receive. In that article there was no mention of testing. As I said I have no problem with the 911 as I knew about the issues when I signed up for Vonage.

Believe me when I say I was not trying to start an issue with this. I just figured that if I read your comments and found them different than what the article appears to say, that others may have the same questions and just figured to get some clarification. As you know there have been some lively discussions in these forums and the media regarding 911 service and Voip. All the newsletter needed to say is that it is being launched for testing. I just wanted to make sure all of us are on the same page with this issue.
