Does anyone with the WRTP54G have remote management working? This is my first Linksys router, but other routers I have had, it is just a matter of enabling remote management (usually just a check box), setting a port for it, and opening the port on the router. For some reason, this does not work with the WRTP54G. I have the 1.00.29 firmware installed. Any suggestions? |

as far as i know, you can remotely access that router by using its WAN ip and the 8080 port (http://wanip/8080) when you already enabled remote management. you can see the wan ip of the router at the setup tab of its webui. just want to tell you that if your connection is pppoe or autoconfig ip (obtain ip automatically) you may not have a constant wan ip |

And if you don't have a consistent WAN IP, you can use a dynamic DNS provider. I don't know which providers that particular model may support, but I know the WRT54G works well enough with DynDNS.

Thanks for the replies, but I am aware of those issues. Does someone who actually owns a WRTP54G have remote admin working? |

I have an RTP300 on my desk right now and I believe that the settings should be similar since they are both the new routers that Vonage offers.
Anyway, setting up remote admin was a bit different with this router. It was more involved than simply checking a box to enable this feature. I actually had to input which IP addresses to allow to perform remote admin. I am not home right now so I cannot post screen shots which would help since it took me a little bit to figure this one out.
I hope this helps. |

I had the WRTP54G for a couple of weeks before I returned and exchanged it for a WRT54G and PAP2. Anyway, the WRTP54G supposedly does not have remote management capability. Sounds silly, I know; however, when I mentioned this to the Vonage CS rep after experiencing some troubles, he sounded surprised. I surfed around the admin tabs and couldn't find anything on it. Unless it's a "hidden" feature, I don't know. |

I noticed the the screen to input an IP address list for remote access, however when I tried adding an IP it would only keep one IP address in the list at a time. However, with firewalls and NATing, how are you suppose to know the IP addresses of everywhere you want to access the router from? Even if the list accepted more than one IP address, it would be a real pain to try to keep this list updated. |

Agreed, but that is how it appears to function. |

This WRTP54G is a Linksys router, but it is made specifically for Vonage and any remote management is probably reserved for Vonage to access.
The following has been posted elsewhere on this forum:
This is something that has been undocumented, or at least very hard to find.
First thing you all need to know is that this router DOES work. Once installed between your working modem and PC, you will NOT get online. You MUST sign up with Vonage and enter the WAN MAC address to get online with Vonage, at which time you will get updates for the router. The device MUST be activated by clicking on the "Retail Activation" link. The update procedure can take as little as 10 minutes or as long as two hours.
The fact that it is a free device after all the rebates offsets the anger, frustration and time wasted getting it to work. These procedures should be on a warning label with the unit. |

I am not sure what you are trying to say, but I have the remote admin working on my RTP300 currently. All I had to do was put in the IP address of the computer that would be performing the remote administration. Also, "remote administration" simply means accessing the admin screens from the WAN port instead of one of the LAN ports on the device. |
