Very Happy
Switched over from Verizon land line to Vonage and have connected my DirecTv HDVR with NO PROBLEMS after following these instructions!
Hardware:
HR10-250 HDVR with Tivo
Linksys RT31P2
one Radio Shack 2-line DSL Modular Filter

Simply add the filter to the phone line connecting the router to the HDVR...filter connection end is into the router.

DirecTV Settings:
Dial-In Number = 1 212 277 3895 (i'm in brooklyn)
Dial Prefix = ,#104
Call Waiting Prefix = *99
Tone / Pulse = Tone
Phone Avail Detection = Off
Dial Tone Detection = On

It works every time! Bye Bye Verizon and your $50/month!!!

Can someone explain the purpose of the filter and if it's necessary for cable modem connections. My system still fails while negotiating.

How did you make your original phone call to get all the numbers?

Any suggestions for a user with a brand new HD Tivo?

I have been using several dial in #'s. But have been using the dial prefix "*99,12122773895,,,,," I am able to connect and begin downloading. However, I am using software version 3.1.5E and I think Tivo is trying to download a large software update. So after I connect and begin downloading (sometimes for almost an hour) the call then fails and it says "call interrupted". I don't know what to do.

I too am wondering about the filter necessity. I can't get an initial dial in with cox cable here in Phoenix. My other Tivo units seem to be dialing in just fine. It is just this HR10 250 unit with issues.

I get the exact same thing - sometimes it will go 45 minutes, sometimes 2 hours, other times 3 hours. Never seems to get it. Stupid Tivo not having the software in smaller chunks....

I've been trying over 2 weeks now to get it... I have the DSL filter and all....

SUCCESS but completely different settings...

Dial-In Number: 1-212-277-3895
Set Dial Prefix: 12122773895
Set Call Waiting Prefix: *99,,#019,,
Set Tone/Pulse: Tone
Set Phone Avail Detection: Off
Set Dial Tone Detection: On

No more DSL Filter. Line from HR-10 250 directly into router.

For whatever reason this finally works. My old settings worked for about 3 months then wouldn't work anymore. This now seems to work. I'm not asking questions.

This message here just makes me realize how screwed up this whole HDTivo -> Vonage is .... Your call waiting prefix does nothing. It just dials those numbers. There is supposed to be a , first to "tell" the tivo abou the #019 speed....

Just consider yourself lucky...
