PostPosted: Mon Jun 27, 2005 5:23 pm    Post subject: small business account Reply with quote Back to top

Hi,

I am setting up an office and need four lines now with the potential of 6 in the next 3 months. Vonage sent me over to a reseller for a bid--I was quoted $299 for 12000 minutes a month. Why is the cost higher than just four individual lines and i don't get unlimited calls--I don't get it. At that price local phone service plus long distance would be cheaper. Does anyone understand this?

Thx,

Dazed and confused in Denver

I would consider yourself lucky that the quote came in higher than land lines because now, the choice is quite simple for you.

If you read here in the forums, you'll see multiple people with call quality problems. If you were thinking of using fax lines, think again, faxes and other modem-based products often don't work with Voip ( a Voip problem, not specifically Vonage).

In my opnion, Voip is really for early adopters right now. If you make personal calls where service quality is not critical, and you don't have a heavily networked environment that requires high bandwidth (as you might in an office), then a Voip system might be for you. I don't see this being the case for most businesses, including my own.

By the way, the reason that many lines is more expensive than N single lines is likely because of the required bandwidth. Depending on the size of N, you could really get into trouble without specialized bandwidth capabilities.

Ann-

Thank you for your opinion on Voip, but I assure you that Voip is more than ready for the business sector and is maturing every day.

Vonage offers many different packages, but breaks them down into two main groups. You have A.) residential and B.) Business Plus

Residential packages are the ones you see on the Vonage websight, that promote $49.95 unlimited and $39.99 1500 plans with fax line and a few call features like Caller ID, VM, etc. If you order one of these plans, Vonage will ship you out a device called an Analog Telephone Adaptor (ATA) for plugin to a cable modem, PC, and homephone. Then away you go. Vonage does however put in its "terms of service", that if you use these residential plans in a business enterprise and use high traffic, they can pull these accounts at any time. Again, these were designed mainly for use with people at home, or working from home.

Business Plus Packages are specifically designed for enterprise clients leveraging IPBX devices like the Epygi Quadro line of router, firewall, pbxs. In this case, most businesses demand a lot more feature/functionality than the home user. The Epygi line of products leverage the use of the Vonage business plus packages by providing these enhanced PBX features while leverage software protocol like DiffServ. Diffserv is a QOS (Quality of service) protocol that differentiates the voice over the data packets. This further enhances call quality in the enterprise.

The Epygi Quadro also gives the user advanced features like these:

an auto attendant
- secure, in house voice mail
- VM via email
- 4 digit dialing, transfer, etc. between locations
- SIP numbers (which you can advertise) that enables you to call any SIP device in the world for free
- softphones
- call relay (you can dial locally from a cell phone into your Quadro and hop on Voip and make free calls)

So in summary, the Business Plus Packages were thoughtfully crafted by Vonage and tested with select IPBXs like Epygi, and gateways for existing PBX systems (Nortel, Avaya, Inter-tel, etc) like the Audiocodes MP series products. These high volume minute packages offer VERY aggressive pricing, and can be pooled if a company as a HQ, and remote offices.

You simply can't compare traditional phone service to business class Voip. You can order Vonage service and have numbers and service within 24 hours. How long would it take SBC or Verizon to provision an order. It would be weeks/months.... Plus, in order to receive competitive rates, you have to sign a long term contract. Vonage = no contracts. Also, with the telephone Co. you have to pay for al carte features like VM, Call ID, call conference, and don't receive advanced features like call accounting and unified messaging (VM to email) unless you pay big $$$$. And then on top of it all, you have to pay for usage and incomprensible International rates. The bells are using Voip backbones instead of TDM anyway, so a majority of traffic is Voip by the major phone companies. They just don't tell you. They are all scrambling to do Voip.

Voip is way past the early adopter stage. It is becoming a mainstream service that is giving business owners the ability to increase productivity and assist the bottom line. We have tested Voip with one of the most esteemed technical colleges in the US. Illinois Institute of technology. The reviews were glowing, and we have a firm handle on how to do this, and how to do it well. If you would like you can review the results and read about the tests at:

Scroll down the page to Fall 2004 Projects and review #2 on above link.

take care,
Don
