It started about a week ago. While in either an outbound or inbound call, occasionally (1 out of 3 calls) the person at the other end doesn't hear me at all, for about 5 seconds but I clearly hear them. I have a comcast Cable connection, 6mb/768kbps and my speed tests are very good, any time of the day.

I did run this test after looking at other forums and its great also. A "Test You VoIP". This was the worst of 3 tests.

Media Quality MOS 4.1 / 5.0
(Best with G.711 is 4.4)

Degradation Sources
Codec 0.58 65.4%
Latency 0.00 0.0%
Packet Discards 0.28 31.4%
Packet Loss 0.03 3.1%

Codec G.711 (PCM at 64kbps,
20ms RTP payload,
80kbps IP BW)
Round-Trip
Latency 124 ms
Packet Discards 1.3%
Packet Loss 0.1%
Loss Periods Min: 20 ms
Avg: 20 ms
Max: 100 ms
Burst Loss

Jitter Min: 0 ms
Avg: 2 ms
Max: 78 ms

Signaling Quality Post-Dial Delay 60 ms
Call Setup Time 70 ms
Media Delay 170 ms

Any suggestions?

I would suggest posting the entire results, not just half of it. and also list your cable modem and network setup.

Call 1-800-COMCAST and have the person check the signal levels on your cable modem. (They can query the modem online... it just takes a couple seconds) Post back with what you find. A bad connection might be caused by old wiring, or too many splitters.

I don't know about the sbs120, but some motorolas have a web interface page so you can check your own signal levels. and in case you don't realize it, you're having a lot of packet loss (latency, discards, they all have the same effect with Voip) which is very likely the source of your problems. how old is this modem? some older modems are problematic. if you're renting it, I'd ask for a new one if it's been over a couple years or so. many problems have been fixed with a new cable modem. otherwise, if everything else checks out, the next step would be to run www.pingplotter.com and try to discover where this loss is happening.

I called Comcast and they ran a 20 packet Ping Test... no loss and my ping times average 70ms. Everything looked good.

The modem I have is their latest modem, the Motorola Surfboard 120. I'm running Ping Plotter right now, how long should it run for before posting results? What address should I be running the test with? www.Google.com is what I chose.

I figured you would get that nonsense from them which is why I told you to try to check your own signal levels.
oh, now I think I see the problem. that's a 5 you're looking at, not an S. it's an SB5120. so type in 192.168.100.1 in a browser and post things like signal to noise ratio and power level (downstream and upstream).
as far as pingplotter, 24 hours is usually a good sample as long as it's on a weekday. it's mainly looking for trends, but if you have constant packet loss, it will show up quickly.

Yikes!

If I'm reading correctly, those power levels are really awful. The acceptable downstream range is -12 to +12, and transmit power should be 35-55 or so.

Connect your cable modem to the main cable feed coming into your house, and see if those signal levels improve. Are there any splitters between the modem and the feed right now?

Edit: just found this:

comcast should take care of that (should being really sarcastic but it's worth a call)
