You can actually already do this if you set the notification e-mail address to your SMS address from your cell provider. You even get to see the caller ID information in the text message.

Yep I have been using this since I got vonage... For example for T-Mobile I use 0000000000@tmomail.net where the zeros are of course your cell number goes Very Happy but yeah it works great!

My problem with this that the email message is too many characters, so cingular splits it into 2 Text messages. It would be nice if we could configure the VM email.

umm... federal law provides this for everyone with a 10 digit "phone" number they dont want called.

the "national do not call registry" for those who somehow missed hearing about it the 1st & 2nd time around can (still) be found online:

donotcall.gov, fcc.gov, ftc.gov

register all the phone numbers you have - be they telco, cell, Voip, sip, whatever. i did & (hope this is why) i dont have a problem with telemktrs

Last night I went to the Vonage Voip Forum Web site and found some threads on features Forum members wish the company would offer.

Interesting list.

Here are ten:

Anonymous Call Rejection;
Free Call Block;
Additional Voice Mail Boxes;
Wake-Up Calls as a Feature;
Free Calls to Puerto Rico; (belay that order-just added today!)
Telemarketer Blocking;
Multiple Emails for Voice Mail notification;
Caller ID on computer screen;
"Total minutes used" account management feature;
Have Vonage voice mail SMS a cell phone that a message exists.

OK, the Vonage Forum members have spoken. Now, it's your turn. What features would you like to see Vonage offer that it doesn't, now? TalkBack.

top 10 reasons Vonage feels no obligation to provide "anon call rej" &/or "call blocking" when it was the very act of switching over to Vonage that left us wide open & defenseless to such calls:

top/any explanation/reason from Vonage why we cant/dont have pc caller id considering to subscribe to Vonage requires a highspeed internet connection which i have for no other reason than my, what? pc.
but we can have softphone - as an add-on.
lets see... motorola makes the cable modem, cable box, Voip adapter, even my cordless phone (or is that they no longer make any of equipt that bears their name?):

Please add these to the mix.....

I would like to see them add the capability of routing incoming calls based on caller ID information to a selection of Voice Mail greetings based on what you want the caller to hear. This means you would have multiple Voice Mail greetings and a set up table that you could list which calling numbers go to which greetings.

I would also like to see Vonage come up with a Premium Calling Plan that would include not only all long distance calls, but also include International calling for one flat monthly rate. Maybe it is a $30.00 or $35.00/month plan….

Vonage does this for me today .. my email address is the sms address of my sprintpcs phone.

I would like to see redial and mute .. for phones with neither of those options.

I have made myself a tool that sends me email notifications when I miss a call on my Vonage line. It can work as PC application or as a Web service.
It's extensible so features like multiple voicemail notifications are also doable.

If anyone is interested to try it out for free, send me an email: nikola.bulatovic at gmail dot com
