I have an SMC barricade wireless router plugged into the Linksys router rt31pt which has broadband cable plugged into it. I also have a wireless 2.4 Ghz phone plugged into Linksys phone adapter. I've noticed lately that I'm dropping call while on the phone. If I stay on the phone long enough (2 min), it'll eventually come back. All 3 devices have antennae's on the. Is it possilbe they are interfering with each other?

That's very probable. Wireless networks also use the unlicensed 2.4GHz band. You might be able to improve things by switching your router onto a different channel (1, 6, or 11), but your best bet is probably to get a 900MHz or 5.8GHz phone.

However, you should first make sure that it is in fact your cordless phone cutting out, not the Vonage service. Connect a corded phone with a splitter and see if you can talk between the two phones when a call drops.

Some ISPs; i.e. cable and DSL will limit the bandwidth for Voip. Your latency problems may be due to your provider. They will never admit to this though. I am a tech for a cable company and we kill Voip and P2P bandwidth. The only Voip we allow to go through is the one we offer. Other companies that provide broadband internet and phone service also limit the bandwidth for Voip so you will use their services. If your hardware checks out good it has to be your bandwidth. Why else do you think so many people have a dropped call complaint on VoIPs? It's not complicated to hook up. My dog could do it.

... and which cable company would that be? On these forums, I've never noticed a pattern of one cable company being consistently awful, which should be the case if what you're saying is true.

I can't think of anything better to do until my co-op starts this August, so I figure helping a few dozen people do some cool stuff is as good a leisure activity as anything else.

Who are you to dictate the type of 'life' I choose to 'get'? Are you the life expert?

I would have to agree with Paul...I cannot think of a provider that consistently has very bad with Voip...other than satelite..But do say the issue is latency due to low bandwidth doesn't make sense. I know people that don't have the greatest upload speeds, but get clear calls. Some people have huge bandwidth caps, but have such bad packetloss and latency their calls are horrible...

Tech_girl18, would you care to identify your employer so that way anyone with them may realize why they are having issues?

Taylor2767, enough with the trolling. If you do some simple math, you will see for the amount of time Paul has been registered, he averages about 40 posts a month...and you average around 35...not too much of a difference...

You both need to get a life and stop putting down other post because you both deem them invalid and your post are correct. Right!

Denver, I used to also have the same problem with a Uniden cordles...My entire wireless network would drop when someone picked up the cordless phone that was 2.4 ghz. I went to a 8.5 and the problem stopped...
Taylor, all we said is that there was a difference between latency and bandwidth....
I use Adelphia Premier, and have great bandwidth (7mbps down and 850 kbps up) but was having high latency for awhile so my calls were coming in garbled...
So please just find another forum to go flame on, and allow people who use their own free time to try to help.

Trowski..

All I'm trying to stress is this a forum where people look for answers and unfortunately their does'nt appear to be one correct answer. I was taught if you don't have anything good to say, then do say anything at all. Of course, with the exception of my comments above Smile
