I was told by a Vonage representative that I must re-activate 911 services once my number transferred successfully. Well, my number transferred to Vonage, but my control panel says that 911 is already active. I need to make sure it really is working. Should I have had to re-activate 911? Is this a bug? Thanks in advance. |

Well I was told that to. I think it is still activated though. I was sent an email, and it also told me my voicmail password would be reset. Problem is I had voicemail turned off, so I check and its still off. You might update your info though just to make sure 911 still works. |

Dial 911. You will find out real fast if it is working or not. |

I got the same same email even though my number hasn't really ported yet. Since I wasn't changing any information it wasn't possible for me to re-activate so I wrote them an email. Here is the repsonse I got from Customer Care when I wrote them:
"In response to your email, the 911 setup is complete for your
account. In some cases, the customer would have to re-setup the 911 after the number transfer. We apologize for the confusion in this matter."
Given all of the negative news regarding 911 and VoIP you would think that Vonage would pay more attention to the language they use. Search the help on Vonage.com and under Features-> 911 you will find an article on how to test your 911 service.

Thanks Mark, appreciate the good info.
Gee Dan, I must be so dumb that I didn't even think of that! I agree with Mark, Vonage needs to be more careful about what they say because they are creating confusion left and right, it's just bad PR. |

You need to reactivate 911 if you cancel a number transfer because your number changed or any time you change number. But if you started by porting your number into Vonage there is no need to reactivate 911 when the port is complete. |
