Now that is a pretty good question. What is the max number of extensions on a POTS line? |

And again, I'm not looking for the REN number answer as that only seems to apply to ringing.
I want to know if it's possible to jack the voltage up on the Vonage adapter to provide a clearer signal if you have a pile of phones in your home. |

I currently have 7 extensions off my RT31P2. 6 of those are old school Western Electric phones. I am ringing 3 mechanical ringers and one non-mechanical. All lines work good. All wiring is CAT5. |

Been trying to get a straight answer to this for quite a while now. I've got the Linksys RT31P2 connected up to 4 phones. 2 of the phones are supplied with external power (power supply off wall plug) and two are standard corded phones with mechanical ringers. Didn't notice any problems at first as the ringer on the standard phone in the house was turned off (just use the ringer on the answering machine). After a while I noticed that the corded phone in the garage wasn't ringing. Turned the ringer on on the one in the house and that didn't ring either. Contacted Vonage and they said they didn't think it would ring the old style phones. They were helpful and reset the ring voltage to maximum and switched the router to the other phone port, but the phones still won't ring. I did a little reading and found that the router has an REN of 5 and I contacted Linksys to confirm whether or not the router is capable of ringing and old style phone. After several less than helpful replies they told me that it should ring the phones and that I should return the router to Vonage for replacement (got the impression they told me that just to get rid of me). Before I try to get the router replaced I'd like to confirm that it's bad and that there's not some setting that will fix the problem. MrKenmore's post indicates he's got no problems with 3 mechanical ringers but I'm not sure what CAT5 wiring is (or if it makes a difference). Appreciate any input.
Thanks

Have you tried my suggested 20Hz, 90V, Trapezoidal ring?
Considering the ringers are mechanical, you might also try 20Hz, 90V, Sinusoidal, if the above doesn't work. |
