I just ordered Vonage about 30 mins ago, and then began reading all the horror stories in the LNP forum.
Now, i'm almost wishing i could take back my order. I'm attempting to fill out the LOA and when i goto that webpage there is an error.
If the number is not ported within the 20 promised business days, how does it work then? Will i be charged by Vonage still even though i dont have my number? Will i be charged by Verizon even though im' not going through them anymore
And the virtual number i was given, isnt that long distance to every single person who would be calling the house? Isnt that a bit of an inconvienience to all of a sudden make my number long distance?
Please help me out with these questions, i'm teetering on calling Vonage and cancelling my order, but i'm wanting to make sure my decision is a good one.
Also, if my number isn't ported in 20-30 business days, can i call and cancel my order and not be charged/ I"m extremely nervous about all of this.

You have a MINIMUM of 20 business days for the port to go through. You must keep your existing service minus any "special" services (that may slow the port process) which you have to do anyway, otherwise you can loose your option to have your number ported. Don't give out your virtual number and you won't have to worry about anyone's long distance bills, just leave your other service as it is for now but use your Vonage for all of your outgoing calls instead - it may cost you less in the long run. If your port takes longer than the minimum of 20 business days Vonage has been known to credit your bill. You do have the option to cancel service with Vonage at any time without the worries of any extra charges -unless- if they sent you a router and you do not send it back to them within the required time limit they will charge you for it. If your port takes longer than 30 day then it is up to you to email and call your service provider and Vonage to give them a "poke it the side" to get it done. Other than that you need to wait a bit but loose the nervousness you have and enjoy the benefits of Vonage. By the way, just keep trying the LOA form, they just may be having a server issue at the moment. You may also be able to get them to send you a hard copy for you to fill out and send back to them. |

So if peopel dial my regular number, it will ring on myland line until Vonage is setup? But if i dial out using a phoen connected to Vonage, it would show up on the caller ID as the virtual number?
So, people can still call in on my old/LNP number and connect through the hardline?
Is that correct? Do ya think its worth it?

My land line number shows on my friends caller ID not the virtual number. I wondered about that too so I asked everyone I called what they saw. It seems that most LNP's go through fine it's just when they don't that things can turn ugly... like mine for example. Don't worry about it.. odds are that you'll be fine. |
