Hello All,

I just received my Vonage router this past Saturday. After hooking everything up, I can not get a dial tone. I purchased a new cable modem yesterday from Best Buy ( a Motorola - SURFboard SB5120 ).

My current hookup is as follows..

Cable Modem >>> Vonage Router (Linksys RT31P2) >> Linksys Wireless G Router (WRT54G) >>>> to Computer.
My ISP is Comcast

The internet works perfectly, however the telephone does not have a dial tone.

I called Vonage technical support 6 times these past two days and even spoke with the "Advanced Technical Supervisor". I power cycled my modem and router's to no avail. I read a thread about having to download a firmware update. Who would I need to call or what website can I download this from? Is the firmware update an automatic download?

I've pinged my computer for an IP address, I confirmed through the Linksys control panel that the Vonage Router does have an internet IP address.

Please help Sad !

Try hooking up your setup this way and see if it works.

Modem>>>>wireless G>>>> RT>>>>computer.

Is your RT31P2 using the 12V power supply that came in the box?

Yes, I used the power adaptor that came in the box. I'm going to try to re-route the routers as soon as I get home this evening. I'll post tonight if it does or doesn't work.

If you haven't done this already, have Vonage confirm that the MAC address they have matches your RT.

Here's the update.

I decided to try the following hookup to see if I could get a connection:

Modem>>>>>> Vonage Router >>>>> Computer.

I was finally able to get a dial tone.

I then tried the following connection

Modem>>>>>>>Wireless G >>>>>>> Vonage Router >>> Computer

No Dial Tone or Phone lights!

Instead of going through all of the hassle of linking two routers together, I went to Best Buy yesterday to purchase the Linksys router with the built in phone jacks (WRT54GP2A-AT).

Once I got home, I called Linksys to give them the Mac address off of the new router. The representative said that it should be ready to go immediately.

So I had the following connection

Modem >>>>> New Vonage Router >>> Computer

No Dial Tone or Phone lights.

I then rehooked up the wired router and I was able to get a dial tone and the internet.

I called Vonage back to see if they actually changed my mac address. The new rep said that it was changed and that it may take up to an hour.

Well I waited overnight, and this morning there is no dial tone or phone light.

Am I supposed to give Vonage the Mac address off of my Cable modem or the router? Does any one know how long this is actually supposed to take?

I would got back to your original setup and power everything down and then begin by powering up your modem..wait for it to cycle through and then power up your RT and then your wireless router and see if this works.

This is how I have mine setup and it's worked flawlessly since day one.

Thanks,

Actually, right now I only have the Linksys Wireless Router with the two phone ports built in. I'm thinking that Vonage hasn't updated my MAC address just yet.

When I hook up the wired router that Vonage originally sent to me, I can get a dial tone. I called to confirm with Vonage that they changed the MAC address to my new Linksys Wireless Router.

They said yes, however I can't get a dial tone through the wireless router.

Isn't the WRT54GP2A-AT only for AT&T Callvantage?
