dan: what is your hardware setup? Is your vt1000 set to dhcp on the wan side?

JustPaul:

Godd idea. With the public ip configured on the pc, with the NAT disabled on the vt1000, the pc cannot see through to the internet. With the private ip on the pc I can see and configure the mta, but the pass-thru doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe I should check with Vonage to see if this is grounds enough to exchange the vt...

Thanks again for your help tonight.

steffan and dan,

It seems both of your vt1000's are not behaving like mine does. When you disable nat, it seems to make the pc port a dead connection useful for only connecting to the 192.168.102.1 web interface. I don't know if it's a firmware thing or what, but your setup seems to be identical to what I have going on.

I wish I could offer more information than my own experiences, but motorola has no support info for the vt1000 series on their site (that I could find.)

Sorry I couldn't help more.

justpaul: thanks anyway! it would be great to get the passthrough thing working.

Here's the firmware info from my unit:

Software Version: VT20_1.1.11c
Bootrom Version: VT20_1.1.11c
Hardware Version: Model: VT1000 Revision: 0 BSP: 1.2/0
Config File Version: 4223755

Is that different from your setup?

Has anyone experienced this.

As you can see I tried another linksys just to make sure and other cables too but nothing worked. I ended up giving up on this and just setup my Windows 2003 Server with RRAS.

BTW: Laura I replaced my cisco with the mot for the beeping as well. Now my only problem is that I lose caller ID and have to reboot the MTA.

Oh, I got all excited about your server -- till I cruised the price. Guess I can live with a few reboots for a while longer. Wink

My phones lose Caller ID too. Well, my Motorola cordless does. The Panasonic desktop has only shown "out of area" since the switch. It showed the numbers on the cisco, though. I'm not going to get too hopped up about it until we get caller id with name in the Nashville area. If it still doesn't come back, then I need to find a corded 1-line caller id/call waiting caller id phone that will work without going auto three-way call or hanging up when a call beeps in.

Laurel: You could do the same with a Linux box, I have the Win2k3 server for some other stuff already so it was just a matter of sticking an extra network card in it.

As for the patch cable, trust me I tried a few. It just seemed like something weird with the Linksys Router and vt1000 not liking each other.

In the setup i listed... Cable Modem -> vt1000 -> win2k3 server and the MTA with NAT off it's working as expected with the pass through and QoS on Voip. Only problem is the losing caller ID, reboot the MTA and it comes back for a few days then I lose it again.

JustPaul et al:

I finally got things working tonight. I never did get the pass-thru thing to happen, but after I re-enabled dhcp on the phone adapter, set my router wan port to dynamic ip, *and* changed my private subnet settings on the router all was well.

My problem was that I was trying to use ips in the range 192.168.102.10 ... 52 on the other side of my router. I thought that since the ips didn't overlap with the 192.168.102.1 of the ta pc port, or the 192.168.102.100 through .101 i'd seen it assign through dhcp, I thought I'd be ok. I wasn't, since the wan port on the router appeared to my pcs to be in same subnet when it shouldn't have been.

I switched to using 192.168.160.x behind the router and presto.. wan connectivity.

Thanks again.

Damn! It happened again. This is the third strike. The ATA stays online for 48 hours, then shuts down and takes my Internet service with it. The strange part is that this time I never lost the dial tone. I couldn't make or receive calls, but I had a dial tone. I relocated the ATA and connected it to a router port, rather than inline. I'm hoping that the problem is that the Motorola ATA just can't handle all the traffic. If this doesn't work, the box is going back. I've got my fingers crossed.

Jim-B:

everything went down here today too -- sort of cascaded down. BUT I called comcast and there was an outage in Murfreesboro, about 15 miles to the south of here. I've NEVER had it go down without something going on with comcast in the same or an adjacent county.

now, what I did try this time was patience. I reset everything as if it was a new install, waited five minutes and voila, all back up.

haven't had time to try to use the mta as a pass-through again. maybe this weekend?
