Post subject: pick up phone LOUD BUZZ all of a sudden.. can't use phone!!
I have had service for a out 3 months have havn't had a problem at all. A hour or two ago the phone worked fine, but I just tried to use the phone and when you pick it up there is a LOUD buzzing sound and then in the background you can hear a fast busy signal, not sure if there is a dialtone when you first pick it up, can't hear it, but after about 10 seconds you can hear the fast busy signal BARELY in the background. I have a RT31P2 router, and normally have 2 phones on a split line.. a cordless and a corded phone. BUT, I have tried one or the other and unplugging the other other and both do the same thing. I have tried rebooting the router, the pc and everything. Awhile ago when i rebooted the router I picked up the phone and there was a SLIGHT buzz, but you could hear the dialtone, then picked it up again and there was a dialtone, hung it up, waited about a min. and picked it up again and there it was again.. I mean it is LOUD just RRRRZZZZZZZRRZRRRRRR
I don't get it..
Right now the phone line light is solid, but awhile ago when it was doing it the light was steady blinking even when i wasn't on the phone.. I think it normaly does that if I'm on the phone, or if it is ringing.. Does anyone have an idea what is going on? My internet connection is fine, get perfect speed tests.. so I don't think it is that. And I havn't done anything different from when the phone was working an hour or so ago.
I would really appreciate any info that you may have..
Thanx

My neighbor had this happen to her a few months ago. I ended up calling
Vonage
and the tech switched her phone line from port 1 to port 2 on the back of the router, which fixed the problem, and then shipped out a replacement RT31P2.
Your router is dying, get it replaced. It will unfortunately cost you whatever it costs to ship it back to them, plus they will charge you $89 until they receive the bad router, then they credit you $89.

Post subject: It WAS the Router.
Hey,
Yea, I found out what it was. It was the router. I called them and they tried to change to the 2nd port and it still did the same thing.. then they had me try to set my router back to factory defaults and it said that it FAILED.. it costed me $6.50 to send back, and they fixed it where if my router didn't get to them within 14 days that it would charge the $89 or whatever to my CC, cause I have a PRE PAID credit card, which was cool of them. They also credited my account $10 for the 3 days my service was down, and for the price to send UPS.
This was Saturday when i called them, they said the router would be sent on Monday, and i didn't expect to see it till at least thursday or friday, it was here on TUESDAY!! The day after they sent it out. I couldn't believe it. So, overall I'm happy. That was cool of them to credit my account for that, the DAY before my bill was due.
Thanx for the reply.. I really appreciate it.

Sounds good. In hindsight I wish I would have got my router directly from
Vonage
. I bought mine at BestBuy so therefore I hear if it breaks that I am responsible for buying a new router. I guess if
Vonage
sends the router to you that you get it replaced for free if something goes wrong.

That is one good thing about getting it through Vonage...they held the charge of $89 for 2 weeks on me also. I did not save the box from my RT but sent back all the cables, documentation etc and they did not pro-rate it. I just spent $5 to Priority mail it to them with tracking and got the new router overnighted to me...they will work with you no problem!

I'm wondering if they will charge me anything because when I sent the router back I still had the box and manual and everything, but TOTALLY FORGOT about the CD.. Because I didn't even use it when I set it up so I totally forgot that it came w/ a cd till I got my new router in. Because they had said that they wouldn't charge the $89 if they got the router w/ ALL the stuff that came with it within 14 days. Surely they won't charge me cause of that.. I don't think they would cause they seem VERY cool, and like Trowski said, they will work with you. I thought I was going to have to wait about 2 weeks just to have the router replaced because of the $89 charge, because this was about 3 days before billing, so that would mean that I would have to have like $120 put on my PRE PAID credit card. which would have costed $125 because they charge you $5 everytime you add money to your card. But that was Very cool that they held the charge for 2 weeks.
One thing that **** though about the pre paid credit cards is not this last billing period, but the one before that was my free month because I was referred.. so I didn't have but like $6 dollars on my card, well may 23 I look on the website and it said my status was GRACE, and I looked and my month was free, but was still charged for the tax. hehe which was only like $2 or something, can't remember exactly, but it said that my credit chard didn't have enough cash in it for it, so I went to the pre paid credit cards site and checked in the account and they had taken $5 something out for THE MONTHLY Charge.. which left me w/ 32 CENTS LESS than what the bill was.. 32 CENTS LOL
So, I went to add $5 to my account, which would have been $10 cause they charge you $5, And forgot that the MINIMUM amt. that you can add to your card is $20 dollars!!!! So, I had to add $20 to my card because of 32 CENTS.. LOL It sucked.
That is just my luck! hehe. But, my credit is screwed so I can't get a real credit card, (and really glad that I can't cause it would be maxed out) so the prepaid credit cards is a cool thing. Now can buy things online, etc..
Trowski
I just now caught the part where you said that you didn't have the original box and they didn't charge you for it, so they shouldn't charge me over that cd.

My guess is that they won't, and if they try to, I would photocopy the return paperwork they sent to you on email and mail the CD to them...

yea,
I was actually thinking of doing that anyway. I'm going to send an e-mail to customer support and ask them if they would like me to do that.. or if it is just a wast of time. If they think it is even worth me sending them the cd, I would imagine they won't think it is that big of a deal, but I want to make sure..
Thanx for the info, I really appreciate it.
Take care
